American Troops May Have Fired at Civilians after Blast at Kabul Airport

after the explosion iran and many other people also ran i didn’t see who was shooting i ran out into the street and heard both gunfire and the sound of an explosion i’m not sure if my brother was hit by an american bullet or a fragment of an explosive device the americans opened fire to protect themselves because they feared another explosion i was standing right next to my brother so the right side of my neck was slightly cut and i also have problems with my right ear i was concursed all right let’s now across live to artie’s murad gazdeaf standing by for us in kabul where we do have about a 10 second delay with our transmission so murad is going to take a moment for you to hear me but as i understand you’ve been meeting with several survivors of thursday’s attack in kabul what more can you tell us well what we have heard and bear in mind we visited just one hospital survivors and victims of that terrible tragedy were taken to many hospitals because such was the quantity the number of people that were injured 200 dead 200 or thereabouts injured but the story we heard is the same story that is being told in all the other hospitals in american press in worldwide press that american troops began firing in the aftermath of the explosion that the suicide bomber came within very close proximity of u.s troops who were lined up shoulder to shoulder detonated his device and pandemonium began people began rushing and screaming some had no idea what was going on those that were further back told us some of them told us that they saw american troops shooting others said they had no idea who was shooting all they wanted to do was to survive the doctor we spoke to at the hospital also described one of the victims who was brought in a man who didn’t make it a man who died who had numerous wounds to him five uh in all some of them shrapnel blasts so shrapnel wounds uh from obviously the explosion but also bullet wounds there were three with three patients with the critical condition that we admitted to issue one was a general personalities he was short and chest and abdomen and leg and uh he also in the hand uh he did five so he had five bullet booms he had for many worms but uh i couldn’t say that all of them were from borders some were bullets somewhat bullets [Music] more than that uh the we have now requested for a comment from the pentagon to uh to address these allegations coming from uh all over kabul that it was u.s troops who fired into the crowd the pentagon has said that it is investigating this uh this matter but from experience these investigations can take uh sometimes more than a year as we saw for example in mosul in iraq where there were a number of deadly airstrikes that killed dozens sometimes more than a hundred people nevertheless there is still a lot of tension here in in kabul there is an expectation that uh there may be more attacks a threat level that is persistent that is ongoing according to the taliban according to the united united states uh and its allies all of them have said that this danger remains just to remind everyone there are now about 24 hours left before the taliban’s ultimatum expires and that is that the united states must leave afghanistan by the end of the 31st uh of august that looks like in about 24 minutes from now it’s 11 36 p.m there in kabul we’ll be speaking to you in the near future thanks for that well in the wake of thursday’s bombing in kabul we spoke to a man who was just meters away from the blast site he claimed to have seen u.s troops firing directly on the crowd although we should stress that his allegation has not been verified this was something that we are living in couples like for 20 years or more than that i hadn’t witnessed uh such thing that hurt our eyes uh our eyes was were full of tears and also uh we couldn’t breathe the oxygen was all like there was no oxygen at that time after that when that happened the americans uh just uh shot the fires i i mean they opened their guns at the people there was only one exit and that was near the explosion area so when they tried to push me and like i really tried to reach my aunt and her children but i couldn’t they pushed me and that i thought that my aunt and her children’s got stampeded or they are maybe god forbid they might be dead by now so when i went there uh and saw them i was very thankful for that that they were alive we saw man many dead bodies i like maybe more more than 30 or 40 people’s were laying there dead uh i mean there it was a really bad scene i mean when i saw them i just told to the children students that just don’t look at them just look at the walls so i mean this is very bad for children when asked if there was any evidence of u.s troops opening fire at kabul airport the u.s defense department press secretary john kirby said he could neither confirm nor deny the claims there appear to be images and reports from the ground that some of the afghan civilians killed may have been shot by the marines at the gate at this point in time since we’re 48 hours do you have any evidence that the marines or any of the u.s troops may have shot um injured or wounded we don’t we we can’t confirm that and uh we certainly are not a position to deny it either we are investigating this and as we get more information that we can reliably communicate to you about this incident we will you
