Cameron Bean Memorial 5k Race returns Saturday in Chattanooga

runners will be taking to the streets to pay tribute to chattanooga native cameron bean channel 3’s caroline corrigan shows us how it’s having a positive impact on the city organizers are expecting more than 400 runners to participate in this 5k saturday for the bean family it’s an opportunity to carry on cameron’s legacy on moccasin bend road you’ll find the memorial of cameron bean a standout athlete at the baylor school in sanford university he passed away in 2015 after being hit by a car while out on a run in this very spot six years later it’s where hundreds of runners will gather to race in his honor his mother lisa bean says it will be the fifth cameron bean memorial 5k i think for the first four years this has been a memorial run and now we are kind of thinking different it’s a legacy run for cameron his legacy that he left one of many things was his love for running so through this race we’re carrying on his legacy while it’s an opportunity to raise money for local organizations she says it’s also a chance to raise awareness about distracted driving we also hope that people are more careful when they drive that they watch out for runners whether you’re distracted by something in your car or something out if you see a runner they have no defense against you watch out for people and i hope that that’s happened in chattanooga too you can still sign up for the cam run if you’re interested we have posted that link to sign up inside our wrcb app reporting in chattanooga caroline corgan channel 3 eyewitness news
