Has Society Progressed? | MCR’s PEOPLE’S HISTORY MUSEUM

[Music] [Applause] [Music] today’s video we are going to a museum a very particular museum actually that’s in manchester everyone knows about the certain museums in manchester you’ve got the museum of science and industry you’ve got literally got the manchester museum which is connected to the manchester university but this specific one is one that’s celebrating everything about manchester and how it’s progressed and society the people’s history museum hello everyone thank you for clicking on the video this is ben from ben there done that and now we are going there and we’ve been i’m gonna have to work on the catchphrase here but we’re gonna go to a museum today in manchester specifically a people’s museum um i didn’t take the bus here i literally walked here in the rain and i had many different adventures so i’ll just show you that now now i don’t know i don’t think i’ve ever found a bar that screams white woman’s instagram more than what i’ve just found here accidentally there’s literally pink everywhere like flowers i just it was literally this bar was like made in a lab to be the most thank you boss to be the most white woman instagram bar in humanity so guys i’ve um i was just on my way to like the museum i got stopped by these people was it man becky yeah no worries so they won’t be in the vlog um oh there we go there we go lots of vlog bombers um so yeah you’re in the vlog now a shout out to both of you guys sure matt and becky you’re on the vlog well done right so more people want to be in the vlog hi you want to be in the vlog fatima you’re in the vlog everybody wants to be in the vlog it turns it’s turning into a little bit of fashion shoot and she’s dabbing she does what she wants i like it over to you becky no not in any of it now i think the uh the banter was off the charts there guys so right i’ve i just got stopped by these duracell people um yeah i’ve got some free batteries i’ll put the i’ll put the little video in the vlog now but yeah get some duracell batteries guys so i’ve just come across these it says like one person only i mean how fat do you think that one person’s gonna be uh so this is the people’s history museum first time i’ve ever been here currently in uh it’s in spinning fields in manchester i’ve got to be careful because it’s raining and yeah so it’s a museum of or for the people as the name might suggest you can see it’s a lovely brown and first time we’ve been here first raw reactions of seeing the exhibits uh it’s free admission let’s go check this bad boy out because i’m gonna try and do a bit more museums in this place i was gonna do um the museum of science and industry and the manchester museum that’s connected to manchester university but unfortunately your vlogger ben here is a bit of an idiot i forgot that you might need to pre-book tickets even though it’s free because we’re currently still in the remnants of covid times uh so this is the only place i could get but i’m still i’m looking forward to it um let’s go on in when you come in you get this visitor map uh i’m currently wearing my mask i don’t know whether you know you know it’s up to you but out of respect of everyone else i’m going to wear my mask i was told to go upstairs first so i’m gonna try and not get as many people in so i’m gonna go upstairs first and check out some of the main exhibits yeah this is the first part where this is a part of the revolution i’ve got to try and keep my voice down because i want to be respectful of other people this is the first part you start at which is revolution apparently very nice so let’s have a look have a gandus vitamins and history books psychology and a different way to look at it all cause my perspective is broken your suffering’s a way to earn your kin [Music] i better stop putting miles on my feet but i’m so tired of wandering [Music] [Music] i could make a really hack sort of empty hammer joke there but i’m not i’m not going to do it so let’s look it was a a press and um this is actually in relation to where we used to live we used to live in haywood so to take a closer look around here i don’t know what it actually i presses shouldn’t put my hand in there or anything else in fact i think i should just step away so um here this is like a it’s called the james hogarth initiation secret meeting of the swan in oh i don’t know well basically that looks like they covered in a pub and i don’t know put a skeleton up there maybe it’s some kind of like jason the argonauts they maybe they just watch jason and the argonauts i don’t know okay a trade union makes people feel proud can you use your face and your body to look proud i’m not very good at that people in the union makes people feel stronger use the mirror to perfect your pose um it says to try on these hats but there’s no current hats so i’ve been currently i’ve been um getting life coaching and i was told uh if you change your physicality to what’s called the wonder woman pose it makes you feel better so i’m gonna put you on the floor so what i found about this sort of um revolution sort of part of the museum there’s an awful lot of banners which kind of like represent quite a lot of unity against the man oh this is cool this this reminds me of my like first ever part-time job whether it was a uni look at this you can actually clock yourself in this is cool so i’m not sure that works usual day 4am to film home get it we’ll go to work 5am to 7am work 7 30 to 30 breakfast so you’d actually go to work before breakfast work dinner chores and play i don’t know how it works so do i put it in there oh wait no i put it in that way hey okey dokey so this is new homes a period where post wall consensus look at the posters above and you’re building new homes thanks to lava and look it’s a turning house look at this you could pretend that you your own hurricane it looks as if the sink’s already been knocked over though i don’t approve of the feng shui of that bathroom there you go you look in there oh you can open up this little flap there we go keep on turning this bad boy and in the kitchen is the kitchen oh pardon me sir i am so sorry there we go there’s bur reynolds so here’s the 11 zoom anti-poll tax union banner this was during the uh early 90s in love and june it’s amazing that they’ve managed to uh um you know keep it with any rips and kept it legible that’s what they actually used in the 90s that’s amazing and of course i can only assume that’s maggie thatcher all right you can control her like that oh wait no i’m not gonna i don’t know who that is oh it’s john prescott um spitting it for jury during his spitting image that doesn’t look like john prescott just looking at some of these sort of smear campaigns like i’m assuming from the 90s this vat man vote conservative and you’re voting for 22 percent of that that’s amazing just how the smear campaigns work so we’ve got stuff about thatcherism here obviously uh not a big fan of thatcher myself as you can see here as well it’s like a quite a lot of um anti-establishment kind of uh badges and stuff like that and federation of nanty poll tax unions just all this kind of like some of it’s you know a good majority of you know propaganda and well there we go there’s old a good friend tony blair there labour’s five day pledge no increase in income great tax rates okay well that’s promised quite a lot didn’t you tony so here’s a little bit about the uh minor straight strike in the mid 1980s was obviously which was uh uh which shocked maggie thatcher was responsible about and there’s quite a lot of the uh parathyania and what they were wearing during that time cole not dole whooping over time pigs and clover just love little badges like that under the sun whapping lies tells whapping lies and to be perfectly honest with you yeah yeah that’s true we do not give an xxx for murdock so i’m assuming that’s rupert murdoch it’s so hard to pure fact that even in like the mid 80s he’s considered a villain and he’s still considered a weird disney villain now wow look at that look at these banners you’ve got the manchester district i don’t think the video will actually really give it justice but these are really really big banners here so these are for the society of engineers machinists mill rides myths and pattern makers around 1910 no torture and injustice but human rights okay of course revive women’s group banner in 2019 wow i just love something as simple as a banner can really bring two people together well there we go with understanding banners adam and eve humanity in the origins beekhive industry and cooperative the workplace flaming torch education and knowledge see just even the smallest icons and imagery has amazing things and what what it holds as a symbol i don’t know what’s this it’s a rose queen dress so here’s a little i’m assuming a little workshop here which uh you can create um posters and banners and look down there there’s something for burnham now the mayor of manchester yeah so this is where the magic happens and uh around here is sort of like a bit more of a modern take on sort of propaganda and the power it has hashtag welcome talking about immigration and like things like that how crazy is that and the fight for shorter hours people often work for 16 hour days during the industrial revolution and you know here’s me moaning about you know potentially an eight-hour shift and i work from home as well there we go so here’s like a bit more stuff here i’m going to try and not record as many people i don’t want to disturb them but yeah this is the temperance stuff because all that water was often polluted it was a traditional drink that’s amazing no way you just got you know get drunk and no one could judge you for it i get drunk and people judge me all the time so no you know kicking racism out football or this kind of stuff here [Music] so basically more banners so here’s now a little mock-up of the co-op there we go got some scales there like a classic sort of analog looking till [Music] it’s basically this is co-op in the 1930s whoops that was really stupid don’t do that then [Music] there you go i love the classic designs of sort of like um you know just for you know anything that you put in your ladder just look at that everything was soaked by hand drawn and had so much more character to it [Music] now i think the raisins had just maybe had a bit of a trip to amsterdam by the looks of it here’s like a music for the workers areas i’ve got to be careful because i’m going to get demonetized if i keep on this thing in here so here’s a little jukebox you could pick stuff to play and yeah i’m going to get out here but like that’s cool so um this is a memorial wall to joe cox to the um uninitiated um that the full name is helen johann cox uh i’ve watched this memorial wall is dedicated to uh just so people don’t know who are watching or or forgot um joe cox was a humanitarian um in parliament and basically she did a lot to essentially just help the world there’s no other way of really me saying it really and um unfortunately uh during the time during uh brexit unfortunately she uh unfortunately she got murdered by um i don’t want to say his name but he got she got murdered by uh let’s just say someone on the far right but it’s such a shame that she uh she’s gone because um she encompassed quite a lot of the ideals which i like to push forward in my life and yeah it’s a massive shame that she’s gone amazing [Music] yeah so this is uh counterflow crew yeah created in 2015 which is all different decorated ceramic feet um 200 porcelain shoes there essentially of all different cultures and stuff like that and you could see the differences between you know indian to chinese and just sort of a really decent representation of stuff like multiculturalism and how in a way we always borrow from each other’s cultures it’s quite a good way of looking at it really how we’re all kind of going all going in the same direction and we all need to share each other’s cultures and just be a bit more understanding and so that was the um they’re the people’s museum here at spinning fields in manchester see it’s i think it’s the way to cut things a bit short and there’s quite a lot of things which i want to talk more about obviously with um obviously we went to the the unfortunate murder of uh joe cox and there’s only a huge amount i can really say about it without sort of like wait for whatever better way of getting emotional i mean this museum is a great sort of like indicator of how we’ve progressed and sometimes how as a nation as people society we kind of need to improve a lot more um the thing is though always got to remember i’m aware it’s always good to go to different attractions and stuff like that but always remember to support your museums like this because essentially they survive off donations i’ve already done it donated but i suggest that you come here because it’s always good to understand your culture how we’ve progressed and how we’re going to come how we can progress a bit further so yeah um that was the people’s museum in manchester let yourself be stupid because you’re not stupid for being stupid thanks for watching and uh make sure you like and subscribe let’s stuff i’ll leave all the information in the description below thanks for watching
