tv and on the talk radio app talk radio [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] online and on your smart tv talk radio tv news live at 10 i’m nadira tudor the taliban warned there’ll be no extension for foreign troops in afghanistan as the evacuation deadline for the uk creeps closer extinction rebellion blocked one of london’s busiest roads as they begin two weeks of climate protests and the changing of the guard returns to buckingham palace for the first time since the pandemic began the pm has spoken with u.s president joe biden about evacuation efforts in afghanistan beyond the august 31st deadline america is planning to withdraw troops by next tuesday but boris johnson will ask to delay that date at tomorrow’s g7 talks the taliban has said it won’t tolerate any extension earlier defense secretary ben wallace says the uk’s evacuation effort is down to hours not weeks and that the british military involvement will end when the u.s leaves afghanistan i don’t think there is any likelihood on staying on after the united states if their timetable extends even by a day or two then that will give us a day or two more to evacuate people because we are really down to hours now not weeks and we have to make sure we exploit every minute to get people out eight people have been arrested after extinction rebellion protesters brought some parts of central london to a standstill as they begin two weeks of protests this is more important than anything at the moment this is the biggest important thing in my life and i think it can be in everyone else’s result the environmental activists block roads near trafalgar square and a busy junction near covent garden meanwhile hundreds of anti-vaxx protesters stormed the london headquarters of itv news and channel 4 news this afternoon demonstrators broke into the building’s lobby and demanded to speak to the broadcasters bosses as part of a protest against vaccine passports and jabs for children nearly 5 000 coronavirus cases are believed to be linked to a surf and music festival in cornwall cornwall council said 4700 cases may be connected to the broadmasters event which took place between the 11th and 15th of august and had nearly 50 000 attendees the positive cases include 800 cornwall locals and more infections are expected turkey is set to be removed from the uk’s travel red list later this week when the government updates its travel rules turkey has been on the red list since may meaning almost all travel from the country to the uk is banned but in a statement the turkish embassy reported that the country has lower covert infection rates in the uk and is confident of moving to amber and the changing the guard has returned to buckingham palace for the first time since the pandemic began the first battalion the coal stream guards marched from wellington barracks to the palace dressed in their iconic scarlet tunics and bearskin hats that’s your live news on talk radio tv have a nice evening offense archaeology on twitter quite terrifying have a day off use some common sense people can say whatever they want this is talk radio across the uk online on dab plus and on your smart speaker late nights with jake’s whale on talk radio ah here we go very okay why do we come up with a picture of you i mean yeah good evening every last week and if that happens again i’m gonna sack everybody that’s working no no they don’t want to start you look as if you have had some kind of i don’t know are you you going through some sort of yeah the male menopause aversion therapy or something it looks ridiculous absolutely ridiculous and now i seem to be on the wrong side of the screen oh dear oh dear thank you what happened with you i didn’t hear what happened but you just ran away in tears what’s happening with you okay no i i just seem to be halfway out of the screen for some reason i don’t know it’s not normally that way is it it’s normally oh i don’t know anyway never mind uh what happened with who you and kev because he’s just sort of legged out the studio he’s halfway home already i thought you were chatting to him outside about oh that was good you’ve got one down on james cut him off no no no did you say no are you sure no you were absolutely positive all right uh let’s get to the program good evening across the uk james whale on talk radio i’m not very fond of journalists as you know uh because they usually talk rubbish and they usually want to sort of angle things against people they don’t like um so obviously i’m very sad when anybody’s going back to love island before and um what kevin was talking about how how disgusting love island is um i i haven’t really watched it but i’ve seen a few bits of it i have friends who are absolutely addicted to it it’s been the final tonight and they’ve had parties and all sorts i’m really enjoying what’s happened um i don’t know i didn’t watch it i’ve been getting ready for the show of course unlike you gosh your hair looks ridiculous tonight but never mind at least i’ve got something to be quite honest i quite fancy you tonight well that’s the hormones that you’re with the hair like that you know yeah you know maybe you’ve got an imbalance or maybe that’s how that’s norm maybe i don’t know no no i think it’s okay i think it’s okay anyway i want to get to it so kevin thought it was okay to have a go at me because i called him a smug idiot um and uh well he is he’s a journalist and then he cut me off um which is okay because i cut lots of other people off so i shouldn’t really be very upset about that should i um but uh no you know he said well don’t you care about people who’ve committed suicide well you know it’s it’s tragedy if people do that but if it’s somebody you don’t know out of thousands of people um i you know it’s a stupid question to ask and what a journalist would ask to try and put you in an embarrassing position so basically um i’m not that sort of caring concerned person uh if if i was i wouldn’t be doing this sort of show it’s very sad if anybody has a psychological problem that makes them want to harm themselves very sad indeed and if our doctors at the moment our gps weren’t sort of living the life of luxury and refusing to see people maybe better but that aside for the moment reality television is something a lot of people like in this country now don’t refer to those people slightly mindless i have to agree with him on that i’m not sure if i’d go as far as calling them moronic but slightly mindless adults they’re not children who go on love island no no certainly not and when i went on big brother um i knew exactly what i was letting myself in for by the way but i had to go and go and see a psychologist i had to talk to the psychologist for a while so did everybody else going in these programs and they had to make the final decision as to whether or not you were mentally able to do it now obviously like everything else in life sometimes things get missed sometimes people actually uh get on programs that maybe they shouldn’t but reality tv unless you are very stupid and very thick the producers of reality television want to cause russians they want to make it interesting they want to make it uh okay and also you know you sometimes you become a very big star don’t you within a couple of weeks and then you’re all forgotten about a month later yeah it’s up to you but you make you hopefully make some money out of it i went on big brother to make some money nothing else purely but don’t you miss that you know to stardom when you came out of the big brother house everyone wanted a piece of the whale well how do you mean did i miss it i don’t well you know a couple of months after and it’s all forgotten you’re yesterday’s chip paper blowing down the pavement you know what i mean it’s this sort of you come out the big brother house and your big news but i mean some people they gave them nothing and then they get massive and then they’re yeah well can you tell me the person who won big brother when i was in there was it bear it was yeah how did you know because you’re one big brother it’s a massive story i mean did you see his twitter the other day no i don’t follow him is he still around do you not follow everyone’s following bear now since he won big brother because he became a big star about it but um yeah he did something it’s pornography basically i’m surprised you didn’t spot that it was filthy i mean obviously a bit desperate but let me go listen let me go back to this whole thing if if you had somebody a relative friend who went into big brother they end up committing suicide not big brother um i don’t think there have been there’d been other shows of course like there’s been a lot of mental breakdowns but it was mainly celebrities that had the mental breakdowns in the end wasn’t it it was well you know which is surprising you think it would wouldn’t be the celebrities are you very warm or something are you going you are going through the challenges yeah the um you shouldn’t take the hormones male menopause look at your hair so anyway if anybody wants to talk about this i would i would be more than happy for you to give us a ring i think that uh love island i’ve only seen a bit of it but some friends of mine are absolutely addicted to it they love it they got together tonight and they had a party because of it and for the uh who was the who’s the journalist on with kevin the the show they’re all you know kevin is a showbiz journalist and their lives are i tell you what showbiz journalists do um showbiz journalists are there to take the mick out of people in showbiz and uh celebrities and they’re there to take the mick out of them because they’re they’re embarrassed but they never made the symbol they didn’t become very well known why why is kev on the radio kev was the man who made jade goody the first big story on jade goody there you are but there there is nothing wrong with reality television except that you ought to know and if you if you don’t realize it you are too stupid to go on it the producers will probably make sure you have the mental capability to handle it but some people will get through it it could be quite dangerous but then so come like there is other things exactly he got passed out didn’t he probably do that for his own policies that was what it was that was it yeah that was the actual reason stupid hate because if you if you do what leo did you don’t get paid but going back to love island you know weeks and weeks in a a beautiful place in a really nice hot warm area they prance around without any clothes on they seem to sleep with as many women as they want i mean honestly what is what is not to be liked it’s amazing the hypocrisy of it though in this today’s you know age about all feminism and you know you can’t put those things into women but yet the number one program that and they sort of suspend their it’s all apocryphal isn’t it but i think that i think the bosses of itv i mean they’ve they’ve kind of woke eyes this morning and woke eyes loose women and any other show they do they don’t do many well it shouldn’t be called swimming isn’t that sort of that’s pretty disgusting it’s disgusting when you think about it yeah but you know the uh the the people who uh who are the bosses of uh ytv at the moment i don’t really think they know which way they’re going forward i know i’m not interested in a job forward one step back yeah i would my favorite tv channel that you’re not supposed to watch i suppose now is channel 5. well that’s improved a lot hasn’t it no it’s improved a lot i’ve got a lot of documentaries yeah yeah a lot of them yeah i quite like that but i’m telling you i’m really got it in for kevin what’s his face now i’ve really got it good because they’ve been a bit cuddly cuddly your handovers you’ve been a bit cuddly you and kev lately and we’re all you know we don’t know i mean you know you don’t want to share my passion for animals that’s fine and by the way while i’m talking about animals i will never ever go to australia what’s that gotta do so they better get me into i’m a celebrity quickly before why not what have they done in australia well they’ve shot all those dogs they’d shot those dogs did not see that story it was appalling no so as far as australia is concerned you’re off my list like america too i’ve got many places left that i want to go i mean i don’t want to go to russia i don’t want to go to china i don’t want to go to america yeah well that’s all right we’re saving a lot of castle at airports at the moment a lot of hustle at the airport um anyway listen call us one thousand i 0-344-499-1000 sick and tired of so-called um tv what are what do they call themselves showbiz journalists that’s right showbiz journalists who you know the the the one that uh kevin was talking to who i don’t know from was it the mail uh was just talking rubbish he was just and he was talking rubbish too and i don’t mind talking about him behind his back because he was frightened of taking me on in conversation he just cut me off and i won’t forget that kevin so tomorrow be afraid kevin be very afraid he’s gone in fact you better come in tomorrow and stand behind him when we’re doing the takeover i mean the um handover the takeover it’s okay for you it’s okay all right well i’ll you know can you handle six hours i think we could oh i don’t know about that yeah it’s a bit long isn’t it of course you could can you handle the 50 rise yeah maybe we’ll talk about it we’ll talk about it yeah do you want double oh the extension rebellion as well that’s annoying isn’t it well we’re going to do them in a minute i mean i mean they they why haven’t they been moved or have they been moved away now and arrested has it all been cleared what are the police doing why hasn’t it been cleared let’s go to our first caller he might know more nigel good evening good evening james good evening yes it’s a great uh great to talk to you tonight well i i really am quite shocked by the lack of policing by cressida dick and dac matt twist who really should resign for letting london down uh last week they alerted the media to this wonderful policing program they’re going to implement and it’s going to be a tough tough two weeks and we’re going to be there to to deal with it well they’re so tough if you remember in 2019 they allow the boat to be moored in dry dock oxford circus and today uh this is how clever things are rebellion on how they’ve outwitted the police they excuse everybody mentioned we’re going to do it in the city of london where they did a couple of millennia protests but all of a sudden they’ve appeared near leicester square with a giant table and blocked off five roads and what’s happened the keystone cops have let it happen and i don’t know what christopher dick is thinking of her well i don’t listen nigel i don’t blame the police officers for doing this but i do blame cressida dick i don’t think she could organize a in a brewery i think i think she’s the most ineffective police chief that uh london has ever had and i know might be boring people listening over the rest of the country but the capital city has been brought uh to a to a standstill tonight and uh and it’s the same people it’s the old hippies and a few people so you know we’ve got to save the planet how the f flip are you going to save the planet oh we’re going to stop spurting cold and we’re going to stop yeah well how are you going to do that you’re going to force people to do it because the people in this country won’t pay more now i agree that the climate is changing i agree that mankind actually has had some hand in it changing but all this what you’re doing is you’re stopping people earning a living nothing is going to change by the way the only thing that the climate rebellion i mean they’re moronic they’re moronic doing what they’re doing but unfortunately the police are worse because the police are not going in and keeping the roads open the roads are supposed to be they should be taking it down immediately you know they shouldn’t have been able to put this thing up well you see it it comes down to a thing called willful obstruction if police are asking you to move you don’t move it’s real for obstruction and you can be arrested it’s an absolute laughingstock we are so why aren’t they arresting them nigel nigel by the way is uh um is a photojournalist so he goes out and takes pictures that you will see you’re not out there now though naj why don’t you get out there man well no i’ll be out i’ll be out first thing in the morning i can’t you just go now and just no well maybe somebody will get the best shots now won’t you we rang up the head hang on a minute nigel we rang up the head of uh extinction rebellion today and when they heard it was me doing the program they said they had nobody available to talk to me and so that just goes to show they don’t have um any belief really in what they’re doing one of the heads of extinction rebellion still drives a diesel car and she said she needs i’ll name my car to get where i’m going you know this is how thick and stupid some of these people are so they are now stopping those people who because of covid have found it very difficult to make a living they’re making it even worse for them they’re showing this country in a very bad state it’s not a huge amount of them it’s only ten thousand maybe something like is it a good rave up down there should we go after guys and girls in the room i think what’s remarkable for me is the west end as as you probably know for those who don’t know around the country in central under the west end is on its knees and now it’s completely on its knees or on its face because it’s come true this might anyway i mean what is the table what’s the meaning of it well i will because they need to sort of come to the table and talk i think what what’s fascinating why is it pink um hang on nigel we’ve got to take a break don’t go anywhere online on dav and on the talk radio app talk radio [Music] [Music] [Music] this is talk radio across the uk online on dab plus and on your smart speaker late nights with jake’s whale on talk radio okay uh right welcome back why who is it who’s mixing the cameras tonight i’m doing that myself actually tonight well if that comes back on on him again camera two hold on no they need to know and if they’re being trained they need to know those spinning balls put me in where i am the star of the show he is just an aggravation so we either do that properly or there’ll be trouble i think i’ve made myself clear haven’t i not really have you seen any sunset behind me look at it isn’t it beautiful look at yours it’s horrible dark outside it’s actually the pollution that causes that actually it’s not good it’s not a good thing right we’re talking about the uh the the the the idiots of extinction rebellion who are not helping the case where we could all be doing a little bit to clean up the planet a little bit is better than nothing because the way these idiots are going on at the moment is making most people think i’m not having to do with them stuffy because the idea of what they’re saying of course it’s not going to work you know what they what they want us to do it just doesn’t work anyway we’ve got to find carbon capture technology yeah that’s the only way out because the human beings before and they laugh at you ash i know well they don’t they just don’t take it they go and shout and then throw red paint at your wall or something you know i mean you don’t even know what they’re talking about i mean they’ve spray painted the roads they’re costing when when we are trying to save money to to uh to put into some green thing they’re wasting money you know have these people not got anything better millions of pounds blocking london like that millions of pounds what about the people who work or don’t most of them work they don’t work they’re middle you know they don’t you know they’re um trust fund people trust me everyone trusts them um right is nigel still there or not yeah right on his way there should be on his way call us tomorrow when you’ve been there nigel i’m here i’m here i’m here i’m here no no nigel when you’ve been that was quick to see them i will do well just the last point i think it’s worth worth mentioning here rebellion going to say if someone loses their life because an ambulance a fire truck well it must have already happened last time when they get to an emergency they block waterloo bridge for two weeks that must have happened yeah that’s crazy here’s the question though here is the question i want to know ring up the uh ring up bring up the police uh haley and uh and get me some some police person on the phone no no no no no no no hayley you must know better than that it’s so difficult to have producers they should learn that media no not one one one either oh for goodness sake not nine one one either that’s the american police yeah no that’s not i want them because what are the police going to do i mean they’re just going to stand there or they’re going to dance again and if i find a policeman dancing again when i’m in london i may make a citizen’s arrest well there used to be a professional they should be a professional i don’t pay the police to go and dance i pay them to clear morons out of my way so that i can go where i am and they’re not wearing the right footwear are they for dance no you can’t dance in those clubbing boots can you so why don’t they do what the i mean the indian police they go along with those big little flicky sticks don’t they yeah they should get some flicky sticks they’ve got those junctions you know that’s telescopic and give them a bit of a whack they’re nice pieces but you know you’re right all right uh nigel we’ll talk tomorrow when you’ve been there thank you very much indeed let’s talk to uh yes all right haley for goodness sake haley get on to the police never mind can you control hayley please ash i mean i know you’ve got your new girlie hairstyle but honestly give it a flick give us a flick come on do it flick oh yeah oh dear see on youtube recognition raku and samson oh i forgot to say of course talk radio is now talk radio tv as well as talk radio you can see here and smell us um deborah good evening good evening you want to talk about afghanistan yeah yes specifically about uh animals out there really i think my mind is just full of questions and thank you for having me on and i’m sure i won’t get the answers to these questions we’ll ask one and we’ll tell you go on okay so my first question is when uh the peace uh deal was done with the taliban why didn’t it include some element of an agreement that the ngos and the charities could continue well they can’t continue because the taliban are a bunch of mindless morons you can’t you can’t be nice about these moronic idiots by the way some of them are very fresh-faced and rather girly-looking have you noticed actually even then they’re all men i just i’d like to know what their routine is yeah because their skin some of the other ones lovely beautiful skin um because you can’t trust them basically deborah they’re a bunch of morons and i’m just hoping and i’m you i’m sure you’re calling up about pen farthing as well i am of course i am i watch with baked breath every morning with updates from from now dad from mayhew international from kabul animal rescue and i’m just i don’t if there has been no element of any deal for them to continue why weren’t the charities communicated why didn’t they know that this was this this could have happened to them why were they left until the last minute to prepare um to leave the country at the last minute well no one knew did they i mean i’m not sure even our government knew no no yeah yeah i mean what would the intelligence people do they must have the government you see i’m sorry but we finished off with this last thursday i mean i’m sorry bori but boris i don’t i just don’t think you’re up to the job i don’t know who is because kia stammer would be appalling but um we need a we need we we’re sorry we need margaret back and we can’t get her back it’s not going to come back man we tried to get a copy we and we ended up with theresa may so you know although i must confess you are beginning to look more like margaret thatcher well a lot of people suggested that last week as well yeah i’m pretty i’m a conviction politician joking apart um deborah i totally agree with you and if um bend farthing and the animals that he’s looking after in afghanistan a lot of those animals work for the british forces too if they don’t get brought home safely this will probably be the finisher i mean more it’s it’s terrible to say probably more than all those women and everything else because you know people in this country love their animals well mostly um and that is that’s the most uh upsetting thing i think that that’s happening at the moment that’s right yeah we’re a national and animal lovers and there’ll be some questions asked what what on earth has gone wrong well you know right back though again what what okay so i understand what you’re saying about the taliban um would they not allow a charity to continue are they not supposed to be apart from anything else they don’t like dogs dog if you could smell daisy may who’s sitting beside me at the moment yeah daisy what have you rolled in oh she’s going i saw a dog today rolling and duck specifically looked for the duck and was rolling in it they pick they like in duck duck um listen deborah i’ve got to go and take a break remember i totally agree with you and let’s hope the powers that they are listening although do you think kevin put them all off or not um that we can actually get those guys and the dogs out it doesn’t need a huge plane medium-sized one they could just send over get them out how they get them from wherever they’re hidden to the airport i mean you can’t suddenly take how many dogs has he got he’s got lots oh how many dollars there was a hundred or so you can get that in a small plane but you know australia they’ve in new south wales the people they’ve just shot a whole load of dogs because they were worried about the um i can’t remember what it was now but for some reason they covered or something they should be something to do with you dogs can apparently spread or something you know they’re paranoid in australia they show everything we can all spread covered get over if you had the vaccine you would all be fine um deborah call us again when we know a bit more and let’s see if we can’t uh embarrass everybody into helping those animals and pen farthing out uh yeah unanswered questions thank you very much okay there is unfortunately no answer because the government actually seem to be behaving like um primary school children who need to do something in the uh at university we need we need some clever politicians where have they gone yeah i mean because of politicians that the police are not you know how can these bunch of of hairy hippies go and bring london to a standstill and by the way put an enormous amount of people in this country off doing anything to help climb it now this this emotive stuff about it’s a climate emergency is just annoying it’s an it you know the climate is changing and it’s always changed oh it’s changing faster will we know it’s raining yesterday and today it was lovely yeah so you know and that’s the that’s climate change it’s been around been like you know it arranged one day and sunday next and that’s it but you know these these people are we were we’re cleaning the planet up but we could clean it more i don’t believe that we’ve got a government who are up to the task i mean look what they’ve done in afghanistan well they didn’t even know about police or they won’t get the police to to police yeah you know knife crimes going unabated we do have a lot of uh traffic cops because that’s easy money and uh i just despair when you look at the leadership in most in most of the major towns and uh the councils the cities in this country you know the only good one i can think of one is is the mayor of manchester is he alright is he yeah but the police there there just went in special measures of police in manchester terrible wouldn’t they have they’re good aren’t they that’s terrible they’re pretty tough no they had to be put in special measures because they were so bad by the way dorothy williams says daisy may what a ridiculous name to give a dog who’s that dorothy williams what a ridiculous name to give a woman thank you let’s take a break online on dav and on the talk radio app talk radio [Music] this is talk radio across the uk online on dab plus and on your smart speaker late nights with jake’s whale on talk radio yeah i can’t believe this whole thing we’re going to talk about it later uh rescue dogs in australia have been shot dead by a council due to coveted 19 restrictions borkshire council not burke bork shire council in the state of state’s north west killed the dogs to prevent volunteers at a cobra based animal shelter from traveling to pick up the animals last week according and apparently they shot them just to stop people picking them up yes what a ridiculous stupid country australia is turning out to be isn’t it it was some sort of what a ridiculous country some sort of gypsy take the vaccine um i just just it beggars belief doesn’t it we’re going to talk about that a bit more a little later on uh right i’ve forgotten where we’re going now do you know ash do you want to um do you want to get on with this or not yeah we’re going to talk to our questions tell you let’s talk to dr david lowe senior research fellow at leeds beckett university david good evening to you good evening james good evening good evening um so anyway i’ve got it in for the government at the moment not that i’m becoming a socialist lefty by any stretch of the imagination i want everybody i want margaret thatcher back because it seems to me this pulling out of afghanistan by the americans and we have to go cap in hand following them is the worst piece of military planning in history i agree with you totally it’s like when i heard your last caller there deborah if she can get through to the white house ask president joe biden why the animals aren’t being rescued i think that’s where we should start looking at where’s where’s this gone wrong basically uh it’s been a political decision by him the problem is though uh when you look at our government um it’s it’s the it’s the number of military that we could have there we we would struggle to do this on our own uh certainly when you’re looking at the the taliban we have to work together it should be nato working together but president joe nato are useless david aren’t they i mean nato didn’t even know america were going to do this did we know america were going to do this no no it was it was it it looks like it was a political decision by joe biden and as a result we’ve got this mess and uh you know the whole strike i mean there was an agreement even i mean you know to be fair to trying to be fair to joe biden here that donald trump agreed to with their with the taliban uh for withdrawal but it was the way the withdrawal was done you you should we we should have got uh those the the the afghans who who are in danger and our own staff out first and done it that way and then bring the military out and don’t just say right it’s like the captain deserting the ship before the people have got off yeah yeah i mean you know it’s it’s that thing of uh you you so obviously i think also the speed in which the taliban actually finally got to kobold i think surprised everybody i think they they they knew the afghan forces would struggle and were both probably they were there anyway david weren’t they they were there and these people just changed clothes i mean looking at the taliban they don’t look like a very good army they shoot in the air a lot everybody knows that’s just a ridiculously stupid thing to do um and and they don’t seem particularly well disciplined either why don’t we just steam in and get rid of them uh well i think they have a degree of discipline because there have been an effective fighting force and you look at the history from the days when the soviet union invaded and of course the irony is uh from the mujahideen that’s where our taliban’s come from uh it was ourselves in the u.s who actually armed the mujahideen then we had that issue of course from up to 20 years ago that’s why the forces went in because obviously what happened 911 etc um but i think it’s been a difficult 20 years and i think you’re quite right there james is uh you look at the afghan army i think it’s been poorly trained poor morale i don’t think the leadership seemed to be up to it um and that’s why i think uh you you watched the taliban get control of virtually it was left on its side it was left on its own without any support so yeah the the problem hang on david the problem is this why are we not contesting what they’re doing it seems in a way we’re saying yeah let us take out people out let us take our people out then you can do what you like chop women’s heads off cut burglars arms off mind you i’m not opposed to that um and various other things but we’re just we’re just saying oh yeah you can have it now we’ve spent 20 years and lots of lives and injuries but hey you can have it why are we doing this well i think it to me it’s i think it could be political and economic i mean it has cost uh a lot of money it’s going to cost well this is my fear james my my uh a leopard doesn’t change its spots i think it’s it’s learned i mean we’re talking just over a week now since they’ve taken kabul and effectively most of afghanistan apart from one small valley where there is actually a national resistance front there um but you as i said a leopard doesn’t change its spot but he’s learned a bit of diplomacy um trying to say well we we’re going to respect human rights well so far the evidence even in the one week is not showing that uh you know we’re going to value women being educated again that one week is not really showing that i think you will see them revert to what we saw up to 2001. i think my other fear is uh they’re setting up the training camps they they actually taliban and al qaeda sort of get on but also in that region it is a big country afghanistan is there’s a faction of islamic state in there who’ve been fighters in syria and with some of the foreign fighters and they don’t like uh al-qaeda or the taliban so it’s going to be another period of unrest in that country instability i think the taliban will struggle to control the whole the country but my fear then of course is the security for the uk and other western states yeah well we’re already seeing an evacuee on the uk’s no-fly security list is released in birmingham now do you not think he was a security person brought in secretly he’s no risk yeah it’s it’s a harvard official uh you know been stopped uh and there’s been apparently you know there have been a few the reports have said a few have tried to get through uh but we’re being stopped at kabul uh and and and haven’t managed to obviously get on the flights so i mean yeah no i’m sorry i’m just conscious of the time david um talking from a security point of view have we allowed our forces to run down too much in this country now well i suppose i’m a bit of a stickler i think our armed forces uh have been run down and i think it’s it’s ironic you talk about the police before as well the police and the armed forces from 2009 we we’ve seen this and yet the government’s saying oh we’re going to have more police officers we’re going to increase the military we’re having a recruitment campaign it’s just to put them in the figures where or maybe as close to the counter where they used to be uh i mean and you look at the military uh and the expenditure our military now like other military will be in conflicts we’ll be fighting different types of conflicts not like conventional wars that we’ve seen in the past you know um and and they play a vital role in in the security of our state and you know we we have to give them what they need to do that job and we need to have i mean everybody uses the cliche boots on the ground but we need human beings we can have as many drones as you like and apparently we’re going to have robot fighters before long and i can i can see all of that but we’re going to need to have intelligent human beings to go in there and secure areas that’s right uh because it’s uh you you do need human eyes looking at things i think you know there’s there’s many facets of our life now where you look at technology but you still can’t beat the human eye actually looking at you have as many algorithms as you want as you said i mean drones are useful john of course they’re useful but don’t have it as the only major sources it’s it’s a combination but you’re quite right the the human element is what you need to make a true assessment of what is happening on the ground at the time uh i think you can apply any any form of security arrangements but could we have ever changed anything in afghanistan wouldn’t it have always resulted in just waiting for us to leave and then bring in their sort of tribal system i think the problem you’ve got because then you’ve also got the warlords you’ve not passed the taliban who helped grow the opium and i think historically you look at afghanistan it has said it’s been the graveyard of empires and it was over a hundred years ago um and with the british empire when when we sent troops in there and they and and it failed uh if the soviet union before that conflict they they couldn’t control it and i don’t think the taliban will be able to control the whole of that country it’s got poorest borders and there’s going to be a number of factions in there i think they’ll be can we really leave a country to live in the middle ages in the modern world in a way it’s very unfair on the people of that nation that they’re not benefiting from 21st century technology as much as the rest of us and so why on earth didn’t we consider it was worth leaving our troops in there combat wise i don’t think any troops have been killed for seven years on america’s side or our side we’ve got troops still in germany since the second world war we’ve got troops in japan will america have uh we’ve got troops in various countries keeping the peace and they’ve been there for a long time so what is wrong is it just because they’re a bit too senile some of these american politicians is that their problem too stupid too thick i mean quite frankly they don’t deserve to be called the policeman of the world anymore no no i think uh sorry david i’ll go over as i said i’m i’m i’m agreeing with you james joe biden has made a big mistake but i think politicians i i really you know it’s put political party politics to one side this is a this is a global issue it’s a humanitarian issue and the reason why there was stability we had a small number of forces in the uk uh and the us and the reason the taliban didn’t move as they did because they knew if they made moves towards our military we could reinforce very quickly thousands of extra troops and they will be defeated again they knew that but by taking the troops out first you’ve now left it out wide open uh and i really do feel sorry for the military here at cobalt airport at the moment doing a very very difficult job and i think we should commend them those soldiers actually men and women on that ground i totally agree and also it puts china and you know russia it gives them a lot of confidence china already showing uh extra you know military tests they do all the time their own muslim population but political expediency is always there with china of course russia it’s uzbekistan and tajikistan is on the border former soviet states i think that’s why russia is holding back a bit to see what happens and what develops but you know again as i said historically in a recent past they haven’t got on but you know again things can change and the taliban may want some political expediency themselves because as i said that they’re going to struggle to govern the whole that country all right um david always good to talk thank you very much indeed for your time dr david lowe senior research fellow at leeds beckett university uh did you not hear the producer shouting we need to take a break no no you just ignore her no no by the way just in answer to kevin flip flops um point about going on about how the people in uh lover oh their children change their children they can’t really take it listen kevin just listen to me the people in love island probably generally older than the troops the guys that we have over there in afghanistan at the moment so just think on that online on dav and on the talk radio app talk radio [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] this is talk radio across the uk online on dab plus and on your smart speaker late nights with jake’s whale on talk radio yeah man it’s just me on the screen no it’s not now but it came back to you for some reason that’s how they want it to start i want that no we don’t want it to start that’s how they like it yeah right hang on mark are you doing this tonight i’m doing it i told you no you’re not doing it it’s mine i’m controlling the buttons that’s right mark you’re not doing the visions tonight mark i’m doing the mixing you’re very lucky very lucky it must be hayley then look mum no hands who is verity it’s charity verity really she won’t want to do it again will she liberty um what ash oh it says really verity i see it what levity and uh by the way i’ve told um i’ve told haley all about you as well i know yeah i know i’m glad you did saves me a lot of time yeah yeah and harder right okay um it missed me when i come on after you it really does get on my nerves that’s how it’s got to be that’s how it’s got to be yeah and that’s that kevin oh what’s his face as well he gets on my nerves too now you better apologize to him tomorrow after what happened tonight and get him some flowers or a cake or something you better he cut me off well he shouted at me and cut me off and went on the tents of you know went on and on like most of these flipping journalists i hate journalists you know they do nothing but they do a very important job they do a very important job freedom of the press you can’t do without freedom there’s no freedom to democrat the press want to dictate for instance here we are you know that the anti-vaxxers tonight have stormed the itn buildings and the google buildings the ones that aren’t in intensive care yeah yeah the ones that aren’t in intensive care yeah go why are all demonstrators so ugly have you ever asked yourself that question when you see the world because the other ones who are ugly are get out you know having a good time and you’re going well i am a bit annoyed about that but i’ve got this cocktail party to go to anyway obviously itn and channel 4 news and all the other news is have decided that well because they’re trying to get publicity the anti-vaxxers it’s not been on any news at all it’s been all over social media it’s become very embarrassing now because everyone’s seen these stories horrific stories of people you know basically dying because they refuse to do the vaccine which is very sad and the anti-vaxxers need to be i mean there’s a chance you know not ignored there’s a chance of action you could have all they’re going to say is yeah it’s much less chance but what the anti-vaxxers are going to say ash is that all the media’s just blanking us they’ve been told to by the government it’s not that at all it is that a lot of these people think that by not talking about it not giving them any publicity i i think quite the opposite we need to give them publicity to show how stupid and moronic their argument is yeah i mean the answer is just there in front of you isn’t it with the amount absolutely people are you know in intensive care are not vaccinated uh and you know they’ve they’ve um they’ve getting everything they ask for now because they’re being shown and hopefully tomorrow there will be some stuff of the idiots uh who got into the reception area of itn what are the security guards doing there well the security guards here when well here they’re different we’ve got bouncers here but the old place you wouldn’t get you wouldn’t get you you were in there you wouldn’t get through but in the old place that you they get through in ski masks and you go why did you let them through to go it’s not my job to uh attack or wrestle them to the ground it’s my job to describe do you remember that one little security guard yeah that’s mine danny devito yeah he looked a bit like danny devito and he was a nice bloke but he was alex yeah he’s lovely yeah um and one night some bloke got it do you remember the bloke who got in with a ski mask there was a few of them wasn’t there yeah yeah and he came um what was alex came into the studio couldn’t have done anything anyway so and i that there was that friend of the guy who was on overnight the trucker who got who happened to be in there who got hold of this guy wrestled him to the ground and then the police came and then uh yeah yeah all these kind of things happened all the time oh life is exciting isn’t it do we have time for a phone call i’m not sure if not should we do some social media yeah i’ve got social media evening james in regards to these morons from extinction rebellion the best way to get them out is with a massive water cannon or show them a bar of soap qpr steve but we sold the water cannon we sold it didn’t we i mean this is now we actually need to found that we bought them stuart spray thank you very much indeed i’m not reading this out well he’s just he’s just been quite rude about kevin and but i’m not reading it out anyway which is unlike me so you can imagine how rude it was um james watching a bit of love island uh this is i wrote this on twitter and it’s been twittering loads of times yeah i twitted myself before the show watching a bit of love island i’m just wondering why anybody would ever get annoyed by my 1980s tv show has just inspired me to get on the radio tonight and stick it to all you wokey pc lot oh i forgot of course because kevin o’sullivan is one of the wokiest people we have working here isn’t he terribly sort of straight laced and he’s not no i don’t know i don’t know no he is he’s awoken what would he say well he doesn’t like to have you know he he’s just woke like most most um journalists are very woke when you come about you know particularly sort of those old fleet street hacks aren’t really woke you know i mean you can’t call those old friends they are they they just pick on celebrities really but when i think about i wish i had actually he kept it is sport yeah he kept going on about how young the people on uh love island were but you know you join the army you can join the army at 16 but you won’t go in front of an enemy until you’re 18. most of those people in love island are over 21 i think yeah oh yeah i would i don’t know actually and they will have been psychologically tested as well and sadly some people will get through who can’t can’t handle the pressure but you know it’s the same in in many walks of life do you like my shirt by the way oh yeah what’s it’s a new one isn’t it it’s what’s that gold gold one i mean how do you wash that you can’t put that in the washing machine can you there you go really won’t it come the foil come off limbo fire says the broad democrats obviously telling me it looks like a liberal democrat yeah a bit but limp same logo yeah isn’t that the tories blue and silver well this one isn’t that a touristy uh lemonfio says a virtual ash moon face better move out the uk as well we shoot loads of dogs in the uk so you bet he says you better move out the uk and he called you moonfire don’t you there is nowhere that that apparently i’ve heard about it you know greyhounds they do sometimes yeah i’ve heard that too and if they’re caught doing it there and if they’re caught doing it it means you better move out because that’s what you said about australia i should be starting a resistance against people who behave like that um you’re your lady friend in birmingham alabama oh yeah what’s rebecca beer saying just says oh oh alec bless him those were the good old days when it was always teetering on the edge of danger and insanity a lot of people tell me it still is yeah yeah well is she is she happy now trump’s gone is she she happy what biden’s done did she well she looked like that’s how she hated trump but she’s not said a word you know and obviously listening at the moment so uh rebecca you know you biden biden really you think he’s good for america well it just makes america look stupid well he really has embarrassed america this could be a turning point in the axis of of is it raining no you sure cause somebody banging at a window did you lock the door properly no well we’ll better go to the news and hopefully you’re still there after it i mean we’ll finally because a broad sword or we’ll get the bow and arrow and the broadsword get your leather boots on i can hear somebody doing this on i hope it’s not a ghost because that would be more i watched that uh most haunted the other night after they wanted to go on it i’ll never go on that yeah i’m never going on that program well i might take you because i know yvette we should ask oh yeah i know but hang on can you hear that yes very strange no don’t do that don’t do that it’s no don’t no i haven’t got the bouncers here you’ve got them there i know i’m glad i’ve got the bounces here should be all right yeah you’ve just got those exactly when you work when you work in our studios it’s difficult to get in even if you can go in officially especially at the moment we’ve got extra security but i’m amazed how um how itv you would have thought what’s up [ __ ] you haven’t why are you playing your xylophone you know you’ve had complaints from the neighbors don’t don’t be frightened no okay there’s that scary music going and and daisy’s scared look it’s yeah i noticed look at her her eyes have gone yeah you sure stacy may that’s not daisy mate that’s another can you hear that music are you playing that i can’t hear anything what are you talking about willis does he i i’m going to investigate oh god sausages [Music] talk radio [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] this is talk radio across the uk online on dab plus and on your smart speaker late nights with jake’s whale on talk radio [Music] all right that’s it i’m not doing the show and me for 10 seconds and then not quite long enough just not doing it anymore that’s it 10 seconds kevin o’sullivan and then no i’m not doing it anymore because he doesn’t like it when the show starts with me but the boss has said he wants every hour just to be just my face at the very start for 10 seconds just to warm the audience up and then bring wales in i’ll tell you what put you on the main screen now i’m going to go and make a cup of tea good idea that’s it put me on and wales can go and make a cup of tea yeah yeah of course i can get it i guess yeah is it roger is it hold on yeah just fill a bit yeah wait where’s the music going why would we put the music but i was enjoying that where it’s not on him where’s wales going is he going for a schedule i’m here right now what is going on haley we’re talking we’re talking to donica hey lee yeah are you done how high are you there shut up right take ash off the screen haley take him off would you cut his mic take him off the screen as i do normally right thank you good evening play the other bit right take the music off james whale on talk radio good evening keep his microphone off honestly hayley you’ve produced this show more right i’ve had enough of this i really have had enough of this um now we’re going to talk a little bit later on to um various people i think we’ve got to talk about the climate climate exchange fiasco in london which is really causing havoc and is making a lot of people very anti climate change i should turn the phone off um but just a mistake i um a very old fashioned nobody’s called me for ages on that particular phone there we are um anyway let’s uh talk to uh donica mccarthy climate columnist at the independent paper uh donica good evening to you sir good evening james thanks for having me i just have to suck half my stuff can you um before we uh before we um get into this yeah you know ever since i ever since i picked him off sitting outside the building 25 years ago with a cup of cold coffee i’ve regretted it ever since anyway what i’d like to start off with is um actually how serious the climate emergency is if nobody does anything because at the moment i don’t think much is going to happen one way or the other um what do you foresee happening in this country in maybe five or ten years time um well already we are having increasing um torrential rain and on the other side droughts so we’ve had more wildfires in britain in the last couple years than we’ve had over the last 10 years so i don’t think well the fact is is that we’ve seen extreme weather right across the world this year and i confess to you james i i um as us as climate uh columnist we expected this in 2015 not in 2021 you know the the temperature in canada wasn’t just a half a degree more than usual it was five degrees it was sahara temperatures in canada it was um in in china they didn’t have just quite often when we hear record rainfall we hear about one day two days three days all happening in an hour in china they had a year’s worth of rain in three days so um when you ask us to predict what is happening now is nobody is safe because if the weather patterns freeze as what’s happening over britain and we have a torrential rainfall of a year’s fall in three days london flooded yeah but maybe that this means the scientists are all wrong with their predictions three days uh we had a we had um i think a month’s fall in three days i don’t think it was a year’s fall we’d all be underwater if it was a year’s fall no no in china in china oh in china i thought you meant in london um right so can you imagine if that happened in london yeah but this is this is what i’m i’m saying this is all correct and mankind has had an effect on the planet because you know everything does and not every species survives i forget how many species die out every year but it’s hundreds i think and eventually mankind will die out and if the climate has got to that stage now why aren’t we spending more time on working out how to live with it rather than going on well we’ve got to change to electric cars we’ve got to stop using gas boilers we’ve got to do this we’ve got to do that which isn’t going to happen with the best will in the world because the chinese government aren’t going to do it the russian government aren’t going to do it and a lot of other countries who say things like well you went through your industrial revolution it’s time for us to do the same now so we surely whether it’s us i mean i absolutely agree that mankind will have will have you know contributed to this but the climate has always changed hasn’t it and it will always change so why aren’t we working out how we can deal with it well the the truth is we need to do both and the the international panel of climate change said that um already what is happening on to the weather systems is there some of it’s irreversible so you’re right we need to start planning how do we defend our towns what cities do we abandon what cities do we move um how do we how do we feed ourselves if we can’t predict where these droughts are going to happen um but how would we then because a lot of climatologists uh donald say well you know the true state of this planet is ice and snow and we are in an interim time between two ice ages yes but what we are doing is actually we’re destruct we’ve disrupted that pattern and we’re actually now at a warmer temperature than we have been for 350 000 years so the fact is james is that we can’t we have to do we have to adapt you’re right but if we keep on going the way we’re going we’ll heat five degrees rise and that means the end of civilization you cannot guarantee civilization if we’re five degrees warmer so we have to do both it may well it may well be the planet wants to get rid of the enormous amount of human beings we are so vastly overpopulated now on this planet it won’t be up to us to to control it it’ll be nature that will suddenly take over and do the controlling for us well i think there’s some some truth in that we’re now at eight billion people on this planet when my father was born in 1900 it was around 1.4 billion people and so that’s why i think the government’s cuts to aid for women’s education women’s planning and women’s economic independence in in the developing world is a disaster because that the the only way you deal with population increase is to give the trouble is human rights yeah i agree well i think we perhaps we have to be a little more radical about how many but we have to be radical about the whole planet not just us and it’s the same with with controlling carbon and everything else yeah we can do our bit but i think the way the government are going about it at the moment and the way that the extinction rebellion are behaving it’s going to put people off here and and it’s it’s going to have completely the reverse effect that they think it’s going to have well the the the sad fact is is that um extinction rebellion was formed three years ago they have moved the debate on to that we’re now talking about that there is an emergency that we do need to take radical action but the action isn’t being taken i think that uh their main demand this week i think is is one that’s endorsed by significant establishment bodies like the european investment bank like the independent the international energy agency which is that the government should actually stop all investments in new fossil fuels and if we did that look in the uk and at the global we’re not investing much in new fossil fuels as far as i understand there was going to be a new coal china they’re building coal powered stations all the time all around the world every year yeah yeah what’s what’s missing in this debate and what people don’t haven’t understand i think that’s what’s very good about today’s protest as they are raising this fact is that the united kingdom is a major center of in global investment in foreign fossil fuels the uk banks their carbon emissions from what they invest abroad is twice britain’s entire carbon emissions and the same with shell and bp so if we could divert that that five trillion dollars is to be invested over the next 10 years in new fossil fuels in renewable energy and energy efficiency and the transition and employing people in green economy we wouldn’t have to um green economy is that going to be i’m not i’m not everybody goes on like what’s her name um little uh jimmy cranky up in scotland yeah she’s going on about there’s going to be new green economy new green jobs what are these jobs this is all this is all just political boulder dash isn’t it really because you know they talk about electric cars what you need for electric cars or electric are these huge batteries then you have to mine the um the lithium out and from places like afghanistan it’s got a lot there by the way should have hung on to that and uh there is no way to get rid of that once it’s um it’s been produced so i don’t really see how electric cars are going to be the savior of this planet particularly when the co-founder of extinction rebellion donica said today that she drives a diesel car because she needs to well i’ve i personally have never had a car because i’ve actually understood the the impacts of car ownership because actually you’re right the impacts of cars isn’t just driving them it’s actually creating them the the carbon impact of buying a new electric vehicle or a new diesel vehicle is around 15 to 20 years electricity for a household it’s massive carbonate before you drive a single kilometer so what uh what i um you know as i’m saying you’re not going to get rid of cars because cars mean freedom to a lot of people well it means freedom for maybe the person in the car but it doesn’t mean freedom for the person for you as a journalist you can’t do that in certain jobs can you you can i i’m i’m i’m a i’m only a a i’m a freelancer so i don’t make all my most of my income from from journalism most of my income comes from being a consultant to charities and businesses and how to reduce something for that do you but certain jobs well i travel i travel around the country i travel all around london and how i travel is i i get my e-bike to the train station i get to the train station other side and i’ll put my followed up event and i get to my clients so it works as an electrician though or you know certain jobs can you yeah but if we don’t darker it’s fine to say that if we were all to do that then nobody get anywhere why do you say that um james seventy percent can you imagine all the bikes turning up to the e-bikes turning up to the railway station cramming onto the train maybe even the bus and it would just be it would be hell on earth and the cost of trains and now what’s happened in london in particular and in other cities as well i believe they’ve slowed the traffic down they’ve made it impossible to do anything but crawl along the pollution will be worse nobody drives into a city center unless they have to nobody does it for fun seventy percent of trips in the united kingdom are under five miles so they can so those trips if those trips are done by walking what am i going to do walk five miles but you can walk cycle or transport or an e-bike all of those are all alternatives are many where i live you can’t donna i’ll tell you where do you live in the middle of nowhere okay well what’s what’s really what’s what what’s fine about that is that uh something like 87 percent of the country lives in urban areas so i’m you’re right you’re right james no solution is going to solve every single problem but the vast majority of people live in urban areas cities and towns and the vast majority of the trips they take are under five miles and they can be done by bike ebike walking or transport so there is it’s three mile three miles to my to a mainline station um there and and it’s very and i’m i’m very old now donna james how old are you i’m 62. do you want to tell him how old i am ash he could be your father donica no way i’m heading to 71 now it’s just the lighting it’s just the lighting this is the makeup born in 1951 anyway so you were born in 1960 something alright yeah yeah all right the fact is don’t get too smug about it the fact is that a lot of a lot of people older people couldn’t walk that distance all the time and if i was to walk three miles to the shop get a bag of shopping and walk three miles back i think i’d only have a car take you all day in a car you can zip there in 10 minutes do your stuff i mean it’s a loss of freedom it’s a backwards step in humanity are you not gonna you know if you’re saying it’s now we’ve the modeling was all wrong and it’s now what it should be at 20 50. it’s far too late isn’t it you’re not going to change the whole world to do what we need to so what we need to do is have a survival plan yeah yeah well i mean i’m i’m sorry i’m not willing to sit aside and allow seven eight billion people to be at risk we’ve not solved world hunger have we people don’t care about other people and the people are very selfish corporations are running things which is why the plan isn’t you know it’s all it’s in a mess isn’t it done why don’t we let nature take its course donna why don’t we just let uh nature take its course and see which ones of ourselves how long have we got donica we don’t know to be frank with you it depends on whether we take action or not the ipc says we won’t take any action that could be too late okay well well if we don’t take action with them we’ve crossed the the danger line for for around five degrees and that actually means civilization crap 100 years because i was i was doing this i was doing this job in the 70s i was doing this job in the 70s and then there were you know it was 10 years we’re all going to be um if we don’t start changing in the 70s they were saying that then it was the ice age in the 70s wasn’t it that was coming oh it was the ice age yeah the ice age is coming in the 70s and then in the 80s the same thing in the 90s and now things you know after 50 years of people saying it’s going to happen it’s beginning to speed up and apparently according to some climatologists i’ve spoken to you have probably spoken to many more they say the heating up of the planet is exactly what happens the get the end of the uh of the ice caps and then all that cold water causes more cold weather and it begins to snow and the next ice age comes that would be the normal process but if you didn’t interfere with it and add a million years worth of carbon dioxide out into the atmosphere every year i mean it’s actually an irish scientist in in the
