A very warm welcome to miss Andrew Sai in a the Indian Independence Day celebration Today is our topic is freedom in laughter. So, before we start our laughter yoga sessions, I request you to throw some light on what is love yoga for our viewers. Over to you, ma’am. Thank you for the beautiful introduction and and for inviting me for this. Um it’s an honor to you know, being an Indian. I haven’t lived in India for over 32 years but I’m still uh uh Indian Heart and Independence is uh you know, it’s it’s always an honor to celebrate uh along with the Indian community. Uh I love the work that you guys are doing and it’s I think it’s so important to share this technique and especially when the when the um you know it came I said freedom in laughter because laughter has given me so much freedom in my life over the last 1011 years and uh that’s what I’d like to bring to all of you and bring the awareness. So, we just take it for granted. You know, we think laughter is it’s free. We don’t have to pay for it. That’s why we take it for granted but the benefits of this great technique are just unbelievable. So, I’m not sure are watching. So, I’d want you all to participate. I’m going to be explaining the whole concept We’re going to be doing exercises. You’re going to understand the science a little bit science behind it. The medical benefits, the physical social, the um you know, uh social benefits, medical, physical, and you will understand how you can experience it by yourself at home. Uh you won’t need anybody. You can practice it and few points before we start. It’s um it’s going to absolutely weird. You know, when you laugh, you know, when we were kids, people used to say, why are you laughing? Do you have a reason to laugh? And uh always, we were, we grew up with the concept that you need a reason to laugh but sometimes there is no reason to love especially at these times and what do we do? So, we still need to get the endorphins. We need to feel good. need to keep our immunity high and laughter does all that which is required even without They say laughter is the best medicine. I think everybody has heard that and seen that and heard. So, we’re going to talk about that and we’re going to experience it. So, I want was watching me and of course, my three colleagues here are going to be laughing with me but please laugh with us and not at us. and we have to tell them that they have to not laugh at us with us. So, laughter yoga is not a comedy club. It is an exercise routine, okay? Because when I went to the park the first time, I just thought it was hilarious. I said, what am I doing here? They’re just laughing for no reason but my kids were very young. Um they were around six, seven, and they were laughing with grandma and they really enjoyed it and later on, I actually discovered that I could go and become a and I was living in Russia at that time. So, why I bring in Russia is because Moscow, I lived in Moscow for 12 years and nobody laughs in Moscow. It’s very cold there. I think you all know that most of the year, it’s snow and uh I really got them moving and laughing even you know, in all the clubs, the corporates and just got this technique there and uh I think it’s done wonders. Um so let me explain what is laughter, yoga, laughter yoga is a unique concept where anybody can laugh without reason without jokes and without humor. So, laughter is initiated in a group as an exercise. So, previously, it was all a group classes, you know, where we used to go and do it in the garden or I mean abroad. We can’t do it in the garden but in India, it’s very popular. So, here I do it with corporates. You get the whole group together physically because now, we are not meeting physically. So, a lot of Zoom sessions have been happening. So, it’s a unique concept where anybody can laugh without jokes and humor it. The concept is based on the fact that our body doesn’t understand the difference between the real and fake laughter So even if we fake it, we get the endorphins, Okay. Now, it was started in 1995 by Doctor Madden Katia, my guru and today, it’s spread over 120 countries and we’ve got more than thousands of laughter yoga clubs, you know, at different places all over the world including the US and Australia and everywhere Uh why is it called after you? Because it’s a combination of laughter exercises and yoga Now, in yoga, we all say, I think most people over here must have practiced some form of yoga in yoga. It is is deep inhalation, exhalation in laughter as I will express to you right now, you will see how we, it’s a deep inhalation and a long exhalation through laughter. So, I’m just going to give you a tip. It’s like this. You just see me. I’m going to breathe and laugh That is an exhalation. Okay. Now, besides doing your exhalation, you are also getting the yogic benefits because you’re going to be again breathing in and exhaling through loud laughter. Now, why do we need laughter yoga clubs? You see why do we need a club? Why do we need to get together in a group? There are three main reasons. Number one, you have to laugh loudly from the belly. The has to move the belly laughter. Why? Because we have vagus nerve that connect to the brain which give us the endorphins. So, we need to laugh and move the belly, Okay? Now, sometimes at home, you’re not laughing all the time with your belly, right? Yeah. You have a joke. You’re smiling. You might have a little giggle but it’s not regular. It’s not like an exercise. Second reason is it has to be loud. Okay. Now, loud and moving of the diaphragm. So now, again, you know, going to laugh loudly at home. So, you need to get into an ambiance where there are there is a class going on and you go and get the benefits and it’s got to be at least fifteen to 20 minutes again, at home, you don’t laugh for 1520 minutes. even if you watch a comedy, you still can’t laugh fifteen to 20 minutes, you might 1 day but not every day and to bring laughter. Laughter is actually you have to make it a habit. The only way you can make it a habit is by practicing it every day. So today, we do some exercises which you will practice everyday by yourself and you will incorporate that in your life and you will see the benefits Finally, there are no reasons to laugh. So, we laugh because we have laughter yoga. Uh you know, these times are very difficult. I mean, every time we’ve had difficult times but this uh COVID time has been really difficult for all of us and to be stayed constrained in the house can be very frustrating. It can be very intimidating even with relationships with anything with your health, with your mind, and we are valued laughter so much during the last 2 years. It’s just shocking and for me, it has really become part of me because of that. I’ve done a couple of 40 Day challenges where everybody participates and for 40 days, they send me laughters so they get it into their system and it becomes a habit So, you know, we’d love to work on something like that with all of you if you want later. So, anyway, let’s uh uh El Paso, do you have any question so we can start? Uh yes, I would like to ask some some of them uh like what are the medical benefits of laughter We’ll we’ll do that. I will say that along in the exercises when I do it. So, I’ll keep giving you the medical benefits, okay? And uh so yeah, what else? uh how to overcome negative emotions to this laughter. It Yeah, you will go through it all now with me and then you will experience it and you will see if if if someone can, if people are online, they can write a comment how they are feeling right now, honestly and after the classes, You’ll see the comments how you’re feeling at that time after 20 minutes or 30 minutes, you will see the difference in yourself but be honest and say how you’re feeling. If you’re not feeling good, say I’m not feeling good right now. whatever. Okay? So, no one’s judging you. Now, there are four, five points that you need to remember Just give me your 400%. everybody. Don’t judge yourself. Don’t judge people around you. Put your ego behind you, okay? Because we sometimes our ego, I should be laughing because children love unconditionally but we as adults, we, you know, we stop laughing because we need reasons to love. You know, there are families who laugh all the time like my dad used to love for the smallest things, silliest things but mostly people don’t laugh as they grow. They become very judgmental. So, we need no reason to laugh to get the medical benefits. Uh you know, when I think about anger and I say, you know, when people get angry about something that’s okay but when people laugh about something, they say, you know, it’s like, it’s just the opposite emotion but it’s so important. Both are very strong emotions and if I can be angry, I can also laugh as much as I can. be angry. you know, but laughter only comes casually once in a while. Excuse? No, we need to bring it into a lifestyle for the health benefits. So, let me uh let me tell you what, there are four steps in laughter yoga. So, the first is breathing. So every time between the exercises, we will take few deep breaths, something like this. Maybe you can all follow me. Our second part, we have a mantra. It’s called ho ho. ha ha ha. Okay. So, that’s how we used to do you see, motion creates emotion. So, when we physically there together, we move the body by Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho Let’s do it. Ho ho ho ho ho They’ve done well in their exams. they go. great job. Great job. Yay. Oh, very good. Very good. Yeah. So, I would like you in between the exercises. You will follow me and say, great job. Great job. Yay. Can you repeat? Great job. Great job. Great job. Great job. Yay. Now, there’s again science behind it. When I open my hands out, I open the chest and I’ll it’ll be easier to laugh and to get the oxygen. So, there are everything is very technical. Okay. The child like behavior is also technical because you need to be in that frame of mind to be childlike to love what you think. Why am I laughing? Am I crazy? So, you you’ve got certain rules you have to follow. So, you gotta laugh loudly. You gotta move the belly. You’ve got to be childlike. You’ve got to do the breathing exercises and we’ve got to do the body movement because motion creates emotion. So, the whole and finally, it’s the laughter exercises. So, the first laughter exercise I always start with is the meeting and greeting laughter or the namaste laughter. I mean, when before we had classes, we were physically holding hands and touching and shaking hands and laughing but Nobody’s touching each other. So, the Indian Namaste laughter has been honored everywhere around the world to start this great technique. You know, it’s like freedom and laughter and here we are. You know, India has got the pride of this namaste which is greeting. So, what we’re going to do is we’re going to be laughing. We’re not talking. We are laughing. We look at eye to eye contact you. you hear the sound and just laugh from your belly. Feel your belly move and in When I say go ha ha ha. We come back to move to the next level, okay? So, let’s start I hope everybody is laughing with me. Great job. Great job. again. Great job. Great job. Open your chest. Yay. Now, I want you to take a deep breath in because we’ve actually exhaled. You saw when we laughed, we’re exhaling. Take a deep breath in. and breathe out. your mouth. Another deep breath in. and breathe out. and the last time you breathe in, you hold, hold, and laugh it out. You see that exhalation? You get get Long exhalation. That’s when you’re clearing the residue carbon dioxide from your lungs and then taking a deep breath, Okay? I hope everyone’s laughing. Show me your hands up. All the ones who are laughing, not a with us. Thumbs up. Okay, our second laughter exercise is a very is a very popular one because we are all doing it and we can actually practice our laughter by using that because nobody knows even you can do it at home because nowadays, we’re not meeting. So, you do it at home. So, hold your cellphone in your hand. You are talking on the phone. Nobody knows somebody is on the line or not but you are laughing so no one can judge you. Whether you’re doing your laughter exercise, right? We need to do our laughter exercises. So, how do you do it? I don’t know but you find places to do it. So, let’s start laughing. You should be laughing with a friend. and you’re getting the endorphins. Oh. Oh. Great job. Great job. Yay. Great job. Great job. Yay. Now, this happens in a class but when you’re on your own now, we have been, you know, we’re not meeting in person So, you can do the cellphone laughter and then by yourself, take a deep breath in because it’s important to replenish the dioxide that has just left your lungs to get in the fresh oxygen to get the health benefits. There are a lot of health benefits and also when you’re laughing, don’t you notice that if you enter a party, uh if somebody is smiling and laughing, you’ll go and you’re attracted to be near that person or will you go to a person who’s a little bit upset and angry and very serious. Where do you think you’d go? You’d go because you get attracted to people who smile, right? Because you mirror neurons, that’s again the sign that you mirror neurons so you automatically smile when somebody is smiling get it. And you and you know that when you go and you’ll smile at something, you’ll go down the security and you’ll say hello to them. They’re smiling back. If you’re grumpy, you know, what are you doing by giving that smile? others. You’re spreading happiness. There’s happiness. There’s freedom in giving that smile. You you do you. It’s free and you just do it and you make you spread those ripples around you and you make life better for yourself and for people around you. Okay. So, what happens is physical benefits, may it boost your immunity because you are getting the oxygen after we are laughing loudly for, you know, this that it lowers your stress hormones because you get the endorphins when you laugh, you get endorphins and it reduces your stress hormones. It decreases pain. You know, when we when we are in hospitals, sometimes we is laughing gas. they give you a painkiller cancer. That’s why because laughing gas when you laugh, it reduces the pain. So you could have, you could do, you could do an exercise if you’ve got a little bit of pain. You know, we all have aches and pains, shoulder neck. like yesterday, I had my Pfizer and whole body is aching. Second Pfizer and it’s like, you know, so little bit of laughter is going to help me because it gives me the positivity and the oxygen. Otherwise, Otherwise, I’m complaining. So, let’s imagine you have pain in your body and we just do a laugh now like whatever you have pain, you got a headache, just let’s think and laugh You can’t do anything about it. better to laugh it out and stay positive. You know, I don’t believe in. I believe in laughter yoga because laughter is the best medicine. You don’t need to take a pan at all. It’s but if you laugh with the pain, it will help you because you have to go through it. You have to make a choice. Whether you’re going to take that pain or you’re going to take laughter as your medicine. You know, So again, it relaxes your muscles. You’ll feel very relaxed after you finish the session and it prevents heart diseases also because again, it’s all to do with oxygen oxygenating your cells of your body because of the laughter, the immunity, the endorphins, uh you know, your blood pressure, everything is under control. Now, let’s move on to the next laughter exercise. So, this is a very popular one you can do by yourself because half the time we are using this at least ten times a day. We are using a hand sanitizer. So, imagine whenever you use your hand sanitizer. You remember to laugh because sometimes you forget to laugh. There’s no reason to laugh. So, whenever you pick your hand sanitizer, I want you to laugh. So, I’m giving you these basic exercises so you can practice by yourself every day and you will see the change in your life. So, let’s go. This is a reminder for or five times a day. You can use this and love I know in the first part of poets started, it was not funny but now we have to be positive, right? So, use your hand sanitizer and remind yourself to laugh and you can bring your kids to do that because they would love it. They’ll say that Let’s laugh, you know, huh? So, that’s another excuse that you can laugh and remember to laugh. So, let’s take a deep breath in now because we have done some exhalation. So, breath in Another deep breath in. One more time. Breathe in. and laugh it out. What happens is when there are more people, why I ask that three people should be on the screen because when there are more people, it gets contagious. When you look at each other laughter gets contagious. You know, when you have a group of people laughing, the sound will make you laugh. So, laughter exercise is performed together is contagious. So, that’s why what preferred not to do the webinar only with me on the screen but at least three of you so people can see how it goes and they will love but when we do a Zoom session and everybody’s laughing, it’s fabulous because everybody is in that laughter mode. Yes. We move on to the next exercise which is uh again of one of my favorites. It’s the credit card bill laughter. So, so we have to pay a credit card bills or all our bills even in spite of we don’t have work or we have work that’s going to still stay. So, are you going to be grumpy about it and get upset? It’s not going to help because you still have to pay. So, let’s laugh over it so that you can deal with it in a better situation by being more alert how to deal with it. So, let’s laugh at your credit card bills. but we still have to pay our bills. You have to pay your rent. My husband is going to pay. This is what I usually say. My husband has to pay it So I don’t have to love So, for all the hams here, look at me now. has to be in the middle. Stealing is laughing. laughter. It’s a value based. So, values sorry. or a great man is appreciation laughter. So, when you want to appreciate somebody or appreciate yourself, you know, we are complete. We are good enough. You know, we always put our self down. No, even if you make a mistake. So what? So what if you so it’s like a so what laughter. So, let’s laugh at yourself. or to your kids. I hope you’re moving your belly everybody. Okay. Now, we need to take a deep breath in. We’ve exhaled a lot. So, breath in. and three. One more time. Breathe in. and laugh it out. There’s a lot of uh uh lot of kind of mental benefits of laughter. All you know, you feel more in control of yourself. You know, like sometimes even traffic light. you know, we get stuck in India or even in Dubai. There’s a lot of traffic, traffic, you know, and you’re sitting there, you go to reach a meeting how you going to reach that? okay. You can’t, you know, some people complain and fight and you know, they’ll shout at the Uber guy or the what’s the point? What can he do? That’s the situation you rather and if you’re going for an urgent meeting or an important meeting, you’d rather be in a good mood, then go in a bad mood by screaming at the taxi guy or yourself and getting agitated and being anxious. So, when you are stuck in traffic light, you can also do when you’re sitting on your wheel and this traffic, you laugh So, you incorporate laughter in every field of your life and make your life lighter. Make it lighter. You don’t have to be so stressed. Life is too short and to be happy and smiling and being positive and sharing those, it gives ripple effects around you. You carry that positive aura around you which really benefits others. So, if you have a goal or a purpose in life like you guys have goals, you know, in your family, you’re doing so much for um you know, the special needs and of you. I think it’s such a great technique to bring to the families and to the parents because they are under stress. They’re already stressed about the kids then, they have to manage their own stress because of outside situations. So, how can you do that? You can practice laughter and you can bring it on regular basis in your in your life. Now, the laughter, I can teach you what I did when I started. You’ll say, you know, how can I practice on my own? Yes, there are exercises you can do on your own and get the benefits but you have to be committed anything discipline and commitment. It’s like is a Sanskrit word which you all know which is means confirming, committing, and dedicating to whatever you agree. It could be breathing. It could be singing, It could be playing, It could be laughing, Just commit and be responsible and you will see the change on your own. So, one, when I when I actually became a laughter yoga expert and I brought it to Moscow and I had, of course, I had to practice it because it doesn’t happen easily. I can’t make people laugh and it’s so easy to be very confident in myself. So, I started practicing at home and one laughter that teacher taught us was the silent laughter. So, you laugh, you get the endorphins but you’re not making noise. So, nobody’s watching you. So now, laugh, move your body but don’t make noise, okay? So, my husband used to sleep next to me and I was laughing just to get my endorphins and to practice. So, let’s try it. Move your belly. So, you can’t complain to me that uh you don’t have exercises to laugh. I’m giving you all these but you can do at home by yourself even if you start with 5 minutes a day, you’ve got four or five exercises already. You’ve got the cellphone laughter, you’ve got a hand sanitizer, laughter, you’ve got the uh uh silent laughter. you’ve got the angry laughter. Let me teach you an angry laughter. So, if you’re upset with your kids or with your husband instead of making it. So, it’s such a big thing out of it. Go and do So, you give the message to them in a playful way. you know, and that gives you your endorphins. It keeps the, you know, the the home in a very pleasant state, you know, because you are in that mood. So, in whatever reason, you can bring laughter. You know, we had a very nice laughter which is a cocktail laughter. So you to you can make a cocktail. So before it was we were doing a laugh, you know, drinking las and mixing it but I created this joy cocktail So you take and I want you to make some joyful emotions, okay? And you will then drink it, okay? So, when you drink it, you’re going to go up like this because again, we’re opening our chest and we are laughing, okay? So, let’s make a joyful. Everybody hold your glasses So, we mix hope inspiration, joy, joy, serenity, compassion. creativity. and now, let’s drink it. So, you have a positive in persons of gratitude. You’re drinking it now as a cocktail. Let’s make another cocktail. everybody. come on. Happiness. laughter, dance, dance. compassion, love. Let’s drink it. The problem is that we also have negative emotions, right? And we have a lot of negative emotions. We don’t notice a positive emotions as much as we know, sometimes there’s negative emotions. So, let’s gather all the negative emotions but don’t drink it. You throw it behind, okay? Nobody drinks your negative emotions. Now, we are making negative emotions and you’re going to just throw it behind I don’t. Okay. So, let’s go. We’re going to release our stress. So. Okay. sadness. panic. Fear. anxiousness. Let’s throw it out. Don’t drink it. One more time. Depression. lack of confidence. anger. guilt. Show me. Send me some words. Jealousy. jealousy. amazing anger, anger. Okay. Loneliness, loneliness, and you can put all this together and when you do it on your own, you can throw it behind. So, you actually are throwing out those emotions. Okay, Let’s go. and now, we need to take a deep breath in and we just ill. So, another deep breath in. Breath in. Actually, let’s take a rose. Imagine you have a rose in your hand. You’re smelling a rose, a flower, okay? So, oh, lovely. So, let me tell you. there’s a lot of difference between laughter, yoga, and comedies. Now, when you do, when you’re watching, you’re watching a comedy, it’s more external, you’re depending on external factors to love, right? Because in that comedy, it might be funny for you. It might not be for your son or your daughter or your husband but it’s funny for you because it depends your state of mind. So, there might be people laughing. There might be people not laughing. It might be um uh a language that you don’t understand. So, it’s very dependent on the activity That’s going on. Where is in laughter yoga as an exercise routine, what happens is we are laughing from the soul You all three of you, you’re laughing from the soul. There is no reason we are laughing. I know we are laughing because of we’re creating some actions and laughing but it’s from the soul, right? Yes. Yes. And it’s contagious. So, basically, it’s very pure that laughter, you know, and of course like comedy second comparison, you can say is every day you’re not watching a comedy. Now, how will Get your laughter, immunity, and all your stress hormones by practicing laughter yoga as an exercise routine every day. Now, you can’t do that with a comedy. you can but how many days will you watch a comedy and then sometimes a comedy gets into a negative comedy or maybe some naughty comedy which is not nice and you’re not So, but with laughter, yoga is an exercise routine. You can incorporate it with the whole family. You can teach them the techniques, you know, So you love You know, you’ll be creative. You can create your own laughters. Of course, when you’re physically moving, it makes a lot of difference but when you’re sitting, also, you still get the endorphins. How are you guys feeling? Super, okay. super. my belly Yeah. Any questions for me? No, I think you have answered all the questions in between. So. yeah. yes, I think it’s perfect, you know, and what happens is also in uh income Like when I go and do corporate laughter yoga sessions, they literally need ice breakers when they are meeting for management meetings or for a finance meetings, big companies Uh everybody is very stressed at those meetings for 3 days. You know, the Three-day Conference. So, be going as an opening icebreaker where you make them do laughter yoga exercises and everybody starts bonding because people who laugh together work together. you connect with people and you laugh. Laughter is universal. It doesn’t have a language Even if I’m in Russia, I didn’t know the language but laughter got me together into the whole community. you know, because you don’t need, you don’t need a language to love. and when I moved to Saudi and Kuwait, I lived in Kuwait after Russia over there. also, I didn’t know the language but I connected through laughter yoga so it connects you with people. It attracts you to people. People want to be near you. You create positivity around you, around yourself and it’s great. your health. So, why are we even doubting it? And it’s free. You’re not even paying for it, right? So, it’s just that sometimes when you pay for something that you feel me, but otherwise, no, I think and and also one more thing, I forgot to tell you all that when you move your belly, you actually laughter. Yoga is burns like 10. minutes of laughter. Yoga is equal to 30 minutes of growing. So, not while we are sitting but when we are standing and we are moving around, there’s a lot of movement. I have a lot of exercises that we do standing now. I can’t do that now on this. So, this is a sit down thing but you actually burn calories. So, you also burning calories. You’re burning your tummy fat. in the morning. You can get up when you’re brushing your teeth. First thing you remember Do you laughter? Nobody’s watching you in the shower. Okay. So, you have a lot of choices. You can create your own but don’t forget to breathe after that. That’s the most important. That’s for me. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh do you want me to still go on or you want you want to go So, uh so our time is actually exceeded so but I would definitely like to go with the word of thanks. So, first of all, I would like to the to you and this uh was and I actually enjoyed a lot from our members and I hope they will also enjoy this entire session and definitely will be bringing some changes in their life and I will also share this video. Thanks to the for the honors and along with that, I would also like to thank all the audience for supporting us. The recording of this session will be uploaded on YouTube channel very soon. Before we close, just do a gratitude laughter for the world at peace. So, just laugh and then you can exit out everybody Thank you. Bye. Thank you. Thank you so much.
