Many world leaders have a ‘strange delusion’ about the Taliban: Yasmine Mohammed

now yasmin muhammad is a courageous young woman who escaped extremist islam after she was married off to an al-qaeda jihadi she now devotes herself to fighting for oppressed women living under islam i asked her about the reality facing afghan women under taliban rule despite the taliban’s claims that they’re going to respect women’s rights there seems to be this very strange and odd you know delusion by so many world leaders who seem to think that the taliban are going to be any different from isis they you know you have prime minister trudeau making demands your i have nancy pelosi saying oh the world is watching you have um you know jacinda in new zealand saying you know please be nice you know it’s absolutely ridiculous these are terrorists and they are going to terrorize the women of afghanistan like they have in the past there’s no question about it absolutely and they’re unashamed about it they video some of this brutality and share it they are proud of their belief system um but there are many also desperate to point out that the taliban’s conduct has nothing to do with islam let’s hear from labour mp stella crazy in in the uk we must also say this is not islam islam is not the reason why people are clinging to planes to save their lives that is brutalism and terrorism and we must not let people divide ourselves here or overseas in that fight for those values yes man what’s your reaction to that it’s well intentioned but what’s your reaction yeah to be perfectly honest when somebody says something like that they are choosing ignorance they are choosing to pretend that they cannot see the parallels between the way women are treated under the islamic state of iraq and syria under the islamic republic of iran and under the islamic emirate of afghanistan you know there is a common thread there is a glaring common thread of misogyny that is woven throughout all of these muslim-majority countries there is a reason why there is that common thread of misogyny and that reason is because the religion of islam sanctions this treatment of women well you and your foundation have fought for women oppressed by islam both in muslim majority countries and in the west how often are your efforts frustrated by the feminist movement or the left and we are talking about here islamism extremist islam because you can be a muslim and not a press woman and treat women as equals and uphold their rights but we are talking about islamism which as you’ve mentioned throughout the world women do not thrive in so tell me about your fight and how it’s hampered by elements of the left well the way that it’s hampered by elements of the left is that they feel like they need to restrict themselves from criticizing an ideology that harms women if that ideology comes from what they perceive as a minority group now islam of course is the second largest religion on the planet so globally they’re not a minority group however if you’re looking at a you know a random western country if you’re looking at canada australia america then muslims are a minority group now what you said is true and it is a fact of course that not all muslims are going to be treating women in this way but what cannot be denied is that the religion of islam does sanction this so when somebody does choose to treat their wife or their daughter in this way then there there is there are edicts within the religion that will support him and so you mentioned that i was married to an al-qaeda operative and when i was married to him for example i did not have the right to say no to him so i had to endure marital rape because the hadith say that a woman must give herself up to her husband when he wants her regardless of what she’s doing and the same is true for the reason why i had to endure him beating me because quran chapter 4 verse 34 tells a man that if he fears disobedience or arrogance from his wife he can beat her so obviously not all men are going to be beating their wives but those men that do want to beat their wives have some religious backing to support them and so that’s the kinds of thing that we’re seeing with these islamists with the the the people who want to spread islam politically so obviously the taliban are uh you know an example of that so the actions that the taliban are doing are sanctioned in the religion but that of course doesn’t mean that all muslim men are going to act that way but unfortunately you know they they have support from the religion and that’s what forces a lot of women to be silent sometimes is out of fear because they are being told this is what the almighty allah has said this is the the verse right here in the quran and so women like me when i was in that position i was too scared to fight back because i didn’t want to burn in hell for eternity thank god you got out of that marriage and you’ve uh escaped that life and are helping other women just lastly on afghanistan tell my viewers about the plight of women who are who don’t submit who refuse to wear the burka or a hijab who want to go to school who want to have rights uh what i mean they face it’s only been you know a few days and i’ve already seen videos of them with their whips whipping women um you know they’re already burning down um it was a a playground because it had statues in it that they disagreed with they’re already painting over murals if it has a woman’s face or a woman’s body they’re already you know actively erasing women you know i have to just absolutely you know congratulate the incredibly courageous afghani women that are standing up against them already i fear for what is going to happen to those women of course the ones that can get out or are trying their very hardest to get out but as you’ve seen from the images you know everybody is trying to get out but the ones that do remain there they’re going to be put in a position where they’re just going to have to unfortunately submit to these terrorists or die that’s it that’s that’s the terrible reality yasmin muhammad thank you so much for joining us tonight thank you rita
