My Leading High Performing Teams Program Experience: Anna Islamova

Hi, my name is Anna Islamova. I’m originally from Russia and currently I live in Los Angeles. I am a co-founder of MoreVotes.com which is voting marketplace and in 2021 I participated in the Leading High Performing Teams Program with UCLA Anderson Executive Education. I chose this program as a co-founder of a startup because we were struggling to grow and I thought that by exploring what it looks like to lead a high performing team, we can actually create a high performing team at the company that I founded. And during the course, the most surprising thing was how much we spent on creating and diving into the emotional intelligence and taking responsibility of every team member and what does it look like to actually have each and every person on the team being responsible and accountable for what’s important to them and how instead of performance. So that was very surprising. Another surprising aspect was a simulation. we did a simulation, team simulation, working together at the end of the program. It was quite surprising to see the results of that. So now that I have completed the program I’m very excited about getting together with the team and identifying the problem areas and strength and weaknesses of every team member and also bringing up a very important topic which is probably the biggest issue that’s holding us from growing is that none of us, there’s there are three co-founders, none of us are particularly responsible for success of the entire business and in that program I really have seen that this is exactly the first part that’s holding us back from growing in numbers and growing in people so very excited about this. I would describe UCLA Anderson Executive Education Leading High Performing Teams Program as a program that is showing you and having you apply in practice a notion that leading high performing teams is not difficult. It’s not difficult. It does not require a lot of effort. What it requires is courage, authenticity, ability to listen, solved conflict compassionately and being open minded about diversity about all the issues that outside in the world impacting the people on your team. If I could pick one word to describe the program and the impact it had on my life, I would say it was life changing. It was life changing for me, who I became as a leader and who I became in my family and how I start listening in different teams in my life. Life changing.
