vanguard tactics and welcome to another live stream battle report and tonight on the channel we have necrons versus harlequins at 2 000 point chapter approved 2021 mission i'm liam i'm around the necrons and with me is jake who is commanding the drakari jake's going to tell you a little bit about frank our tactics so basically we here at vanguard tactics we're our whole goal is to try and make you confident in the game have clarity with what you're doing and overall just improve you as a player so obviously we have a load of things to do that also the battle reports for one which is a bit more of a blend of uh you know a bit of comedy bit of you know tactical moments and some coaching moments as well um i don't know if i'll be able to give them as well as steve normally does um and yeah really obviously we've got the academy as well the links are all in the description for that and yeah really that's that's that's us at vanguard tattoo and you mentioned steve it's a bit strange tonight because steve's not up here with us or with you normally i'm not gonna lie i am missing mr box but i have no yeah great replacement my flex counter is not really near as high so on the deck we do have steve and eddie tonight how are you two doing yeah we're very good [Laughter] very good thank you i'm ver i'm doing very well thanks you're excited about this steve i am i am actually looking forward to seeing what you guys can do i think it's great yeah yeah perfect slash worried yeah but excited because you've let go of the reigns i have but it's gonna be great i've got full faith in you camera for dice cam because we've had a bit of a reshuffle here at the vanguard tactics studio um to make it all nice and crisp and clean and move cables up out the way and basically mean that we announcement very excited about that i won't say anything no hopefully it'll be ready for next tuesday yeah if you keep whipping me i'm sure it will be um so just a quick note before we jump into the mission just a quick note on super chats um obviously it's amazing you guys are so prepared to support the stream with super chats and we thank you for it all the money that comes in via super chats just get put straight back into the stream so one of the ways we are able to update this studio and upgrade the studio and push all the lights up and fix things to ceilings and get new cameras is because of the donations via super chat so it's massively appreciated however over the course of the last few months they've got a bit crazy so what we do now is we hold the super chats for the movement phase when we go into the movement phase and jake and i get really boring and start thinking about what we're doing steve will switch to top down and we'll start talking to you guys in the chat start answering the super chats if you've got questions they'll be held to the movement phase and one of us will try and answer them for you a huge thank you to everybody who decides super chat tonight you're all awesome you're all legends with that steve do you want to take us to the mission and talk us through it please yeah absolutely so the mission today is scorched earth now scorched earth we're looking at a six objective mission and you will score five points if you hold one objective in your command phase you'll score another five points if you hold two and you'll score a further five points up to a maximum of 15 if you hold more than your opponent at that set time if you're going second then you'll score at the end of your turn at turn five and turn five only both of you have to pick three secondaries you'll both be awarded ten points of battle painted which will be reflected in your scores and those secondaries are capped at 15 points per piece giving a total of 100 points for this mission now there is a special rule in which you can raise the objectives in your opponent's backfield and basically tear them down i very much doubt it will happen but i just thought i'd point that out and um yeah we've got a whole mixture today of the ruins we've got some dense terrain and difficult ground and we've also got some containers in the middle which is going to block some line of sight so that's the kind of layout all the buildings are over 5 inches and some windows are open some windows are closed so true line of sight is in play thank you very much steve you absolutely didn't with that we can jump into the list so we said it's necrons versus harlequins and my glamorous assistant eddie will pull up the necrons for me now on the player one button this is my 2 000 point necron lift that i'll be running tonight um it was the one i ran at the most recent factorial event and i did okay with it considering actually um so let's talk you through the list we have a battalion detachment and we have a supreme command attachment in the battalion detachment we have three hq choices so we have a scorpek lord the scorpet lord has a wall of trait which gives me -1 damage and a relic which means when i use my living metal ability i gain an extra wound so i gain two wings back instead of a single wound i have two chronomancers the chronologists give out those five up um invulnerable saves in the command phase and reroll charges one of them has the veil of darkness which allows me to pick up and redeploy himself plus one infantry unit from the necrons dynasty i then have three troops choices i have three five-man immortal units each with gauss blasters bog standard but obviously i'm using religions relentlessly expansionist and internal conquerors as my dynastic code meaning they count as two models with their objective secured ability because i i get that from eternal conquerors religiously expansionist gives me an additional pre-game six-inch move happens i believe after we found out who goes first which is quite tasty moving into the fast attack choices we have a unit of nine scarabs we then have uh five scorpet destroyers and we have the famous knight bringer the nightbringer has his gaze of death ability and he has sky of falling stars two very tasty katan powers we also have two crypto thralls they don't take any force organization slots we have two units of three affiliate destroyers and we have three of the plasma sites they're basically the familiars that follow destroyers around and are able to give me an additional strength in the fight phase should i so choose and then finally in the supreme command detachment we have the silent king himself but he's not called the simon king is he steve no he's not what's he called steve he's called nick less [Laughter] nick less the king the king nicholas so nick left super chatted the relevant amount to have the sonic king night named after him uh many streams ago and here he is in all his glory waiting to take on the forces of the harlequins a point to note the silent king is from the zarakan dynasty however he does not get the zarakan dynasty trait because he's a domestic agent but it does give me access to the stratagem that allows me to attempt to deny a psychic power on a four plus from being zeracon so i don't get the zeracon benefits um the rest of the detachment are all eternal conquerors and religiously expansionists so everything is opsec everything gets a pre-six inch move with the exception of the nightbringer so because the knight bringer is a katan shard he also doesn't benefit from domestic code that is the forces of the necrons i start on a massive 13 command point so i spent a command point for an additional relic and i spent a command point for an additional warlord trait because the silent king has to be my warlord because he's in a supreme command attachment he also gives me additional command points that's why i'm above the twelve it gives me plus three so i spent two i started at plus three for 15 and down to 13 command points and we'll go through jake's list before we do secondaries right i think that's a wise move perfect okay in that case i will hand over to jake and his harlequins that he knows really well no pressure right so this is obviously not my sort of thing it's actually steve's list so as liam said he used this list at the factory event i've used this once and that steve is using the rest so i've been doing my practice reading my books and this is what i've taken today it's not going to be any different so we've got two battalions sorry today both of which are frozen stars they get plus one attack on the charge um so in the hq's for the first battalion i have a shadow sear this shadow is my warlord with the warlord trait um of it doesn't actually say that okay so our kin shall rise again so basically whenever i lose the last wound on one of my harlequins i roll a dice on a six he doesn't die which is really really useful um i've also spent a cp on her so she has a pivotal and additional pivotal role and that pivotal role is that and while within six inch well six inch at the moment you get minus six inches weapon range correct awesome um then i've got the relic on her as well she's got all the fun today she's got the is it the shadow stain that's it trying to find it on here there's so many words um shall we say basically all of our auras are plus three inches and our psychic powers are plus three inches as well so that will make her auras a nine inch aura for both of the abilities she has um her spells are veil of illusion and veil of tears and then i've got a second shadows here uh this one's just a standard one no singing no special stuff here she has got the fog of dreams and the yeah fog of dreams and web way dance and i have a third chance here and this one has the shard of light and the mirror mine's powers right that was a mouthful going into the troops it's pretty simple six units of five harlequins in this one all within braces so plus one strength minus three one damage going into the second battalion i've got the yin khan and so the incon has the gaze grenade and ancestors grace then i have two troop masters the exact same just with power swords and no special bits on them and then i have in the troops another six units of five harlequins exact same embrace on them and a star weaver transport and that is 1 995 points five point down five-point flex already playing with a handicapped joke i don't think that would be the handicap i have so yeah so that's our list you've got a absolute ton of met uh of uh objective secure troops so really you should be strongly focusing on playing the primary game however clearly we both have to pick three secondaries and if eddie sticks the scoreboard up for us we'll take you through our secondaries so i've started off with engage on all fronts um i have two units of deep striking amphibians everything is a pre-six inch move scarabs are quick score package quick they can move through the ruins i feel relatively confident engaging all fronts especially with dawn of war deployment i feel like dawn wall deployment makes engaging all fronts a little bit easier i've also gone for retrieve octarius data so although you can only max 12 on it you only need to do a single action at the end of your movement phase in each table quarter so you need to achieve this in four out of five turns and if you can do the action that ends at the end of your turn you gain four points basically per don't you wait you don't get any for the first one four for the second eight and then twelve um so i've taken retrieve octarius data and finally i've gone a little bit brave jake so i knew you were running the harlequins and i knew you were running this similar to steve i think it was exactly the same yeah so i didn't think there was a lot that would be to take on the silent king and therefore i've picked code of combat now code of combat is a necron specific secondary objective and basically any noble unit in my army can achieve that secondary for every unit that a noble necron unit destroys i gained three victory points the problem i have and the reason why it's brave is i have a single noble unit which is the silent king so i essentially i have nick less so basically nick i'm relying on you to get me 15 victory points and if you don't we're going to rename the king no i'm just like so i need the silent king to score five or kill five units during this game for me to be able to gain code of combat i'm relatively comfortable and relatively confident i can pick up harlequin's units five man units single wounds each so i feel like it's achievable i just need to keep them away from the income and i think like i might i might better cope with that with simon king normally for code you'd like to stick a couple of command barges in etcetera as well i don't have that with this list but i didn't see what other secondaries i was going to take so code seemed to make sense i did think about assassinate but your characters are fast in four-up inverse didn't seem to make sense we've gone with code it's a brave move it's a bold meaning it's a bold move we'll see if it pays off jake uh steve you want to speak i do matt chin's in the chat is he he is and match him he's the amy fanboy tonight he is and he fully supports your decisions fully supports my decisions especially code because he perfect he also painted the silent king for matching did paint the silent king matching was also on the stream a number of weeks ago when necrons played against the depths of sororities so thank you very much i almost could never say that um um so if you want to see matt's neck on this take on steve's that was a few weeks ago you can find that um in the archive on the vanguard tactics youtube channel jake your secondaries right i've gone quite similar to you lynn it's great mine's thinking like and all that and so i've gone with retrieve altarious data from a stranglehold i believe okay as well can't if it's engaged with stranglehold is it the stranglehold it's up to you mate we can change it if you want strangle what is it on there we've got engage what we can say i'll go now i'll go engage this all right we'll go engage and then i've also got warp ritual not code of combat absolutely not let's be honest guys we're just going to see lots of players being picked up by nicholas mickles picking up the players yeah brilliant that's the that should be the tagline for the streamlining tonight uh perfect so you've also so uh walt bridger what is it it's a psychic action so so what visual psych action can only be done by psychic characters and basically i do a warp action in within six inches of the center of the table and if i do it i get three points per time or it's three seven then twelve so as long as i do it three times i get a certain amount of points there's a few tricks i have around it which uh steve has kindly shown me um but that will be revealed as and when basically perfect okay so i think we've covered all of the pre-game uh admin and i was gonna ask steve if we covered all the pre-game man we just walked out of the room so he's very very offended by my by my harlequin pronunciations that he has decided to leave he's had enough and he's back do you know what he's actually back so i think he's checking how many points i get for warped ritual perfect and of course with warp ritual i can deny um that's like that attempt to score those secondary points so i have a single deny with the silent kings within 24 inches and i also have access to that's our accurate strategy that's 18 inches yeah and i have to roll a d6 on four plus for a single cpi i can attempt to deny that um that specific warp ritual if i want to try and stop those secondaries that does however mean i'm not denying other psychic powers that you've got i think it's going to be very much the case with this is i'm going to have to try and bait you you're gonna you're gonna have to try it yeah yeah perfect right okay in that case steve i think i think we have covered all of the pregame admin are you still happy and comfortable over there steve oh i'm so comfortable right now are you ready for one of the most important dice rolls of the game that's to see who wins right quick early the beds sounds good to me but first of all seconds that's the question isn't it okay hang on a second let me just make sure i've got my picture in picture all set up hang on a second look at this guys oh you're down there like you're like this now don't you oh yeah it's great okay then here we go let me roll first jakey what's your first time liam on our stream what color are you on red for corn and i'm on blue for harlequin cigarettes we have a mighty five jake i'm not going to ask what secret is i think it's the laughing god that's not a fight but it looks like it so it means necrons will take first turn and i don't think i wanted that do you know what i'm actually perfectly fine with that i didn't want to go first in which case into the necron command phase i will gain a cp in a minute i'll do some command abilities but otherwise steve if you can go to top down and start talking to our wonderful chat so we're just gonna move those mute those guys while they start to um do their movements as it were okay and uh so eddie talk to me steve what are you thinking as a necron player yourself would you like to come first or second um i would have liked to go first because it allows you to get all of the chrono buffs off and it just gives you that more aggressive sort of turn one with the pre-game move um so yeah it's pretty good yeah and i'm not gonna lie as a harlequin player that definitely would have been going second uh but just because as well um there's not a huge amount of shooting coming on and that is something that sometimes the they're all robots aren't they yeah it's all good it's all good but it won't change if anything it will actually put um when it we're talking about auras and things it will actually put limit at a disadvantage rather than an advantage if it was a combat unit then obviously that would be an advantage being on a smaller base so i think it's fine yeah it's all good do you want to read these two what it's all about you know bringing these different sort of camera angles for you just so you can kind of see exactly what's going on it looks like that nightbringer is making a real beeline going forward there eddie what are you thinking is he gonna be aggressive uh i think you need to be a little bit you i mean you've got one or two ways of playing either you scoot him up the board and you try and hide him in obscuring terrain and see if you can get off the power that doesn't need line of sight i think it's called sky falling stars that's one way of doing it or you can just be hyper aggressive rush him up the field and go for it i mean he's got a bit of uh terrain in the middle there to hide behind so he's not too out in the open but yeah could be tricky because what he doesn't want to get surrounded is by those harlequins because the harlequins have incredibly great ability to actually pick up that katan in one phase because obviously they can do wounds in the psychic phase then they can then do wounds in the shooting phase and then obviously they can do the wounds in the combat phase so they can give him a one shot strawberry basket one pump you love it it could definitely happen but yeah thank you so much for all of those yeah super chats tonight it really does help and um again this is gonna be leading up to our announcement next week which we're super excited about yeah looking forward to that one uh so gareth said here so what your predictions for the game guys um who is going to be the mvps for each army and which player do you think will take the victory go on eddie over to you that's a very good question i i think it's going to be an interesting game to be honest with you because there's a couple of good players here a couple of good armies and they're not like they're quite well balanced i think um so my heart leans towards liam's necrons but i think steve may have a different opinion yeah i mean this is um you know i've gone to tournaments with this list um i've won tournaments with this list i've you know come in the top five with this list multiple times so i know the list is strong um it's very competitive and it's just depending on how jake wields it i think the harlequins out of the two army are the harder list to run uh just because of the key stratagems that you need to remember liam's giving me some filthy looks right now but it but it's true um harlequins are punished if any misplays happen and if jake forgets any of those stratagems that are so crucial then liam should rightly punish him just like he absolutely punished valrack at the weekend over on liam dempsey's channel so if you haven't seen that one go and check out that report after this one yeah pressure's on jake no um i'm not gonna lie in i i hinted at it earlier but i actually received a message just before this stream no from without rank you try to give me a bribe to say something to you if for some reason i win and we've agreed i'm not going to do it because that's i don't take bribes here i'm played by the book oh actually hang on a minute how much was the bride that's where i can get into this and it was something to do with like when i next see him so knowing him he probably won't even have it yeah we can get there easy could get a new camera lens with that if it was for the sake of the channel and in the six figures then obviously do it was it rude it was a profanity it wasn't for funny actually because i said i'd never do that i'll do anything for love cheeky let him go you gave me the gap so um john islet says any plans on running the orcs on stream soon um we are planning to run them at some point very soon um so keep an eye out for that yeah we need to get our vt coach aaron here with his orc army so um when he's available he did message me last night he's been away at some festivals and he had to do some isolations as well uh so i'm sure at some point we're gonna get him on and then we're gonna do a full orc codex review with jack and aaron when the actual orc codex officially drops so we'll do it we'll do that we've got the gray night codex review coming out this week on the competitive 4k podcast which myself jake and eddie did which you need to get that edited and out and that should be out later on this week maybe the weekend so yeah lots to look forward to also on thursday uh on thursday we have um glass after ed coming here who is a kill team uh sort of content creator and we're gonna be doing a stream on his channel at seven o'clock over on the glass half dead so if you're blue and or red dice i couldn't find them any on the online store um unfortunately the online store isn't finished when it comes to purchasing these things we've had to sort out uh logistics of shipping and pricing and vat and taxes and it's been so so difficult also with the weight of those dice because they are metal they are precision cut it's a little bit like rolling um like a real nice kind of monk blond pen basically so they're they're not cheap um and just for shipping makes them incredibly difficult but if you do come to a factory event you'll be to buy them here and hopefully it won't be too long maybe a few weeks until that site's up and running and you can buy them all yeah there's a lot of people looking forward to getting some i'll tell you that uh gareth also said uh do you think we'll see kill team events at the factory i'm hosted by the vt team absolutely yes so the factorium are definitely gonna be running some uh kill team events uh first of all just sort of intro events and then maybe some more competitive ones later on and am i gonna be hosting it no i'm gonna be playing so uh yeah yeah okay so i think liam give me the thumbs up if you're ready yes so we can go into liam's command phase and uh go from there guys so in the command phase i turned my first command protocol over i've got them all stacked down here hidden secretly because you have to make them secret although it's not actually quick because i get to use two for a single phase for the silent king and uh i've got the same one for turns two and three so i'm gonna turn that one over jake will know i've obviously gone for a protocol of the southern storm for my first command protocol because it makes sense and essentially i get an extra inch to my movement for everything that's within um with i do you know what i've forgotten to do jake i forgot my pre-game six-inch move steven wow so i gained six inches to move on everything yeah are you alright i'm gonna throw that forward now yeah i do i think mine it will take me seconds with what i want to do [Laughter] master hand has come to play smash bros nice to see you definitely on them injected super pro done okay so basically i use my pre-game six-inch move to push some units forward knowing i was getting first turn it's not so risky um and then what i've done is i've basically moved and advanced across the line and i've done this for a reason so i've put my scorpet destroyers on this objective here um obviously i get objective secured so if jake wants to take stranglehold which he's got he needs to take me off that objective or outnumber me on it i've got engage oh you haven't got strong you won't engage that's what it says on the scoreboard isn't it yeah okay cool so he hasn't got stranglehold but still i now hold four objectives and obviously the goal is to hold one hold two and hold more than ye so holding four is important the scarabs have moved up here very very quickly both of these units took the five up invulnerable from the chronomancer's ability and therefore the reroll charges not that i'm charging this turn we did leap the knight bringer up over here kept him out with behind some line of sight blocking cover on purpose because he's relatively fragile quinn's can take him down in a in a turn in a battle round so i don't want to give him away too easily and then the simon king here he's left over the building as well i asked jake what his ranged firepower was like it's not that frightening so i didn't need to keep him behind obscuring terrain what i would normally do is keep him behind obscuring drop his manuals out the side for a couple of turns and do some shooting then launch him forward and take on the enemy um then after asking jake if he had anything that he could pick up and redeploy or sort of deep strike which he said yes i screamed out my back corners here with some units of immortals and finally someone made a boo-boo yeah no i did and someone didn't screen out his backfield very well which meant i was able to veil of darkness turn one and start rotting in a jake table quarter which is a really big deal so in this quarter here right down here i've got five immortals on my chronomancer who have managed to start to retrieve octarius data rod for the rod god in my own in one of jake's table quarters that's that um clearly as necrons i don't have a psychic phase so we are steve into the shooting phase and i've got two guns to shoot that's it i've got my two triarch manuals from the silent king because everything else is at range or advanced oh i could sky fall and stars good night oh yeah for it did he advance he didn't advance because i didn't want to throw him forward too dangerously yeah that's right so i could sky a falling start so i've got three uh basically i pick three units within 24 inches and i roll a d6 for each uh for each unit and on a one to a four because you're five mag units i'll do d3 mortal wounds oh that's quite good so i don't think it makes a monumental difference does it about who we pick here it's all the same really it's all is it what they say how many we've got three units there's three units there three and it's there in the transport and then the rest of the the troopy player people behind there so i'll pick two of these units here yep say the the front two here yeah and i'll just pick the front unit here as well yeah so the first one the far left last camp comfortable we please stephen on a one to a four we don't do d3 multiple wounds lower than one yeah so you have to roll a one for a five to get it off and then that number also has to be less than the number of models in the unit so the next unit along a one to a four oh this is going well and then the front unit here on this central projector what's it for three mortal wounds for a total of one water wound i might kill a player so luckily i've got the warlord trait within six and one diesel so i mean a massive thank you to robbie for reminding me of sky falling stars being 24 inches in range but it only killed a single player and then we do have our two trike manuals here from the planet king who can draw a line of sight to this unit of light blue quinns there i'm just going to fire both manuals quite quickly and see if i can blast two quinns off the boards so we hit on twos we hit once we wound on twos but threes because you've got a shadows here nearby yeah and we wound and it's ap minus lots say four plus in one save i fail it and it's a flat six damage so luckily it's just one six plus roll for the wall or train and that's one more player dead and that's my wonderful mr box would be the necrons first turn i do score two points for engaging all fronts because i managed to drop this unit in this quarter over here and i have started to retrieve octarius data in that same corner obviously the silent king hasn't killed anything yet so there's no code of combat and we're into harlequins turn one i'm not gonna lie i'm very nervous for this game mainly because i don't know as well what these are but i'm gonna give it a go i'm the army i still forgot my six inch move and my cam power so i won't worry about it that's right right we're gonna do what i need to say i gained a cp and then you can just shut us up and move if the super chats if you want uh just a quick one how many cvs you want liam you're 14 now 13. i spent one on a re-roll for advance okay excellent okay cool and jake you go up to nine now i'm about to spend a few but um we'll go through that at the end of my moving phase we're gonna mute you know okay eddie so what do you think of liam's first turn there yeah it's going well i think um you know once you've remembered his pregame move it's a useful thing to have um to get that extra sort of speed because look you can see where he is now he's on those mid objectives already um and because he's obviously obsec he's got quite a strong showing there being able to sneak that extra unit in for the engage as well was great um the the deep striking want to use the veil term one um and that's going to give jake some problems as well uh to have to deal with but uh yeah he's got quite a strong position he's you know it's not a very impactful turn in terms of killing stuff but he's really cemented his position on the board i think what about you yeah i think he's done very well there so especially getting that rod off as well uh just in that corner that was super clutch so uh yeah fair play for liam for spotting that actually but it is quite good that that's no longer going to pop up it's quite nice when somebody does use their veil of darkness yeah because then obviously you know okay i can't be threatened by that later on in the game when it could have been quite impactful for other reasons so it's nice to know that that won't be around any longer now jake is looking quite puzzled as to what he should do he's looking at those destroyers he's thinking how am i going to tackle them the destroyers are difficult to take down because they're the toughness five and that's and the harlequins are only uh strength four so they can get the plus one to wound uh with the stratagem for i think it's one or two cps um and he can get the extra damage but then the scorpet can in return use the stratagem for minus one damage so that's going to be interesting to see what he does there jake obviously moving that star weaver um across the table to make sure he does get the engage and obviously advancing that i'm assuming to move that far because it can auto advance six inches so he doesn't need to roll now there are again some more players behind there which he does seem to be moving out to tackle that uh chronomancer and also those immortals now to get those gone um but yeah i think this is where jake needs to be really careful of how many charges he makes because he needs to be really cautious of the interrupt because that interrupt absolutely annihilates quinn's but the harlequins do do a lot of damage in the psychic phase it's gonna be interesting to see what jake decides to do whether he goes all out or plays a little bit cagey um so this is gonna be very very interesting but you can't just sit there and take those katan powers to the face can they no they do start to add up after a time and if obviously if you can't get the bringer down either in a turn through psychic powers or in a couple of turns he's he's going to have that in his grill and i assume he did he take the warp ritual is it the one is that in the center um yeah so he's got that to deal with right in the center as well which isn't going to be easy so he needs to get rid of him really as a priority and it can be any cycle now which is great that does that which is good um now i don't know if i mispronounced anything but yeah this scorpio extracted him as minus one to wound if i said minus one damage then i apologize it yeah obviously minus one's a wound um so apologies if i misspoke on that one um in terms of the lists if you check out our description right at the bottom there is a link there to the list and they'll always be there for every single one of our battle reports you know exactly where they are each and every week yeah so what have we got going on here jake's really thinking about what he can do about those destroyers i think he's just trying to figure out how much to commit yeah it's interesting about the veil because i think liam's done a good move there doing that to get that rod off because obviously it's difficult to get an enemy quarter rod and jake could have screened out as the turns went on and sort of spread some forces to stop that happening but as steve said i do quite like leaving your veil to turn four and five when no more of the sort of deep striking stuff can come in and then that gives you the power to be able to move a unit and your opponent has to respect that for the whole game um it's really good yeah absolutely um and also we've got two units of orphidian destroyers in deep strike as well that jake needs to be aware of to keep screening out otherwise they're going to hit him in turn two uh but the thing that i mean if it was me using the harlequins i would go all in on those score pack so what i would do and i'm i'm cautious about how loud i'm speaking here but what i would basically do is charge in the score pack with one unit of troop and i would make sure i base every single model so it can't pile in um and then what i would do is put all my other units within one inch but one inch only of all the score of one scorpek model so then when i activate one unit i can fight with the unit that's basing every model then what i'm going to do is wait for the interrupt and then that means the interrupting unit can only attack the unit that's basing me and then all the other units out of piling go in and swing and pick up all those score back and i think three units with the stacks on one unit and then also the troop master on another will pick them up and i'd probably just shoot to death those immortals with all the shuriken weapons because if you put four to five units of shurikens you'll get rid of all those uh immortals and then you can just charge one unit in the chronomancer and kill him so that's kind of what i would be doing get rid of all that the silent kings in a bit bother them having to move to the left and then what i would do is pull the one of the cycles forward into the center um get my warped ritual off shoot something even if i miss then just fire and fade it back hidden again and just kind of do that every single turn but anyway uh we're gonna see what jake's doing he's he's really obviously a new army theme it's difficult isn't it when you're running a new army definitely yeah it's a lot of pressure um you know if you haven't had many games many reps with it with a codex it can be very tricky to remember all the strats really and all the the little abilities um obviously you know jake's got a good grip on the game he's going to be fine moving around to try and dominate the board and and get the objectives and do all of his secondary is that side of his you know cross codex but getting your hands on a complicated faction like harlequins and just doing well with him out of the gate it's gonna be tricky to say you know hopefully he's uh he'll be all right yeah you just don't want to commit too early um that's the thing with the harlequins you want to shift play use the mobility to your advantage yeah i mean it's a trading game as well isn't it you need to think about how much you're trading into x unit and how many points of your sort of troops you're throwing away to get rid of whether it be those destroyers you know whatever it is you need to think about how much stuff you're gonna have to feed up because obviously he's also got engaged to think about and he needs to get those rods off now i think he uh where's his vehicle he's probably going to be able to get out with that isn't he and do a nice rod on that next turn yeah so for me i would actually rod where jake is now get that rod in that corner now because that's the quarter that i think he's probably going to lose and hit real hard on the other chords aside of course i'll do the rod um yeah if we go to camera three now literally that unit in the back corner that's what rod yeah over there get that done um and then what we can then start to do is you know hit this side where we're on camera to get rid of all of them scorpex shoot the immortals down and just leave that massive blob right in the middle ready for some yeah extra kind of action really yeah brilliant so we're just gonna head over to dice cam and i'm just gonna sort out camera two a second with the lighting it looks a little bit different between camera two and three so i'm gonna just sort that out and i'll be back so eddie if there's any questions yeah i'm just having a look at the chat um any suggestion so the moostrodomus has basically said any suggestions on picking a well-rounded balanced army the armies i can think of that are good at being well-rounded are chaos soup tyranids and grey knights i think it's tricky i i think for for armies in general obviously there are certain ones that are more defensive certain ones are more aggressive if you want something flexible that can do a bit of a bit of everything then i mean obviously marines are struggling a little bit against certain meta armies at the moment but they are because of just the way they they have so much flexibility in all their supplements and their codex they are quite well-rounded especially some of the the supplements um you know like ultramarines can do pretty well in most phases of the game i think when it comes to picking an army i would always firstly think about what you want to play um just because i think that's the most important thing to get right if you if you know competitively speaking if an art if an army's if you're just playing it to be competitive that's one thing and you don't mind playing whatever brilliant but i think a lot of us also have an attachment to our army and we're spending a lot of time painting it and you know getting it ready for battle so you know think about that and you know the chaos chaos space screens will probably get a new book at some point their ninth edition codex so when they come out they will definitely be a fun one to look at because again they're kind of like the anti-space marines they've got loads of flexibility with all their different um sort of sub chapters as it were so yeah have a look at them we happy with that lighting looking good yeah i just know cameras 2 is a little bit dark so i'm just going to balance in camera three which is daisy cam to robbie cam just making sure that they're balanced and even so yeah always new setups new lighting you always gotta make sure every camera is adjusted perfectly just to make sure yeah it's all good okay this is going to be interesting i think um jake's really spreading out yeah he's got a bit of a screening game there um so it's going to be interesting now i think he's ready and he can talk us through what he's done if you can work from one side to the other from left to right i'll start here okay cool right so i've weaver over there yeah so for my engaging fronts and then i've moved the incarn out just so he can do a few powers on that unit of scorpek he's a harsh task master isn't he steve yeah harsh but fair so right so moving into my psychic phase so we're going to start with warp ritual from the shadow sid it goes off on a double stick so i do perils um i will keep that so i take three more wounds um that's not the deal um steve question single cp strat yeah with an 18 inches i think i'm with an eight inch chair yeah i couldn't get out on a four plus it just denies it right yeah eddie you know the steve is for for the strategy where it counts my advanced roles being a six would that also be for the purposes of this as well no because when you move again you can only make a normal move don't change everything it just says move as if it was the movement phase yeah so that would be a normal move oh right oh yeah i definitely wouldn't have done that then it's fine i've done it now very well six inches he's then cast a psychic power from the harlequins codex allows him to move again in the psychic phase yeah can he advance again in that psychic depending on whether it says normal move if it says normal move then you i think you technically can advance wait hang on there's something in my head that says in the back of the gt21 that it says it should be a normal move so i think it's just a normal one but let me double check we're gonna go back to on that can you do something else yeah sure well we do lots of things so um so we'll go with we'll go with our other spell anyway which is subtract one to hit roles on this unit as well so uh that's not off um and then you know what actually that's it because um she's got she's got all the um damaging spells do that again for me damage is um yeah so um i'm happy that we if if they give us the real answer you can decide what you're going to do with them once um once they come back to us if you want to move into the shooting phase that's psychic phase complete right yeah yeah um yeah so i'll keep the one model there if it's normal move yeah if it's the six i will be spending a cp to go of course absolutely a bit further um right so we'll just go we'll fire some pistols so yeah the chat agrees with myself and eddie so we're going to go that you cannot advance okay now i'll i'll still do it anyway but i won't lie steve i'm a little bit relieved about that i thought you kid which is interesting yeah and uh vt kylo rto yeah he said it's a normal move so i just wish it yeah padded that way so jake's intent with that just so you guys are aware if he was able to get that auto six inch advances again and therefore move another 14 inches it would have given him a six inch charge range to my uh mortals are in that um in that rather in that room in my my deployment zone so he could have potentially made that charge picked up those five immortals and taken a home objective off of me caused me some problems with things like retrieve octorious data etcetera later on in the game as well so actually not getting that at six is quite a big deal jk yeah having said that i will say you've played one game with the harlequins and you already know them better than valrack knew his imperial fists so i wouldn't worry too much well i will do then i'll just move this unit somewhere else because so obviously what you could have done is move the fir in the movement phase you could have moved them to 14 inches right did you do that yeah yeah yeah that's why i strung them all out to do the double move so then you keep them uh the last one was there so it's just where do i want to put the rest of the unit yeah well that was yeah that was a little bit pointless then so um um would you considering that would you have moved them completely differently right from the start because if you i would have just left them there but it's all right i need i need to learn i'm not going to learn otherwise so i'm just i'm just tempted to move them back into the building to be honest because the last one was there it's just the air um it was so it was in the building i moved it 14 so if i moved it the full 14 it would have gone there because the case of i can't double here this spell was three inches and he started off in this ruins he started off in this room so he could go there if he wanted but then he becomes too close for silent king to pick him up and also then you're in deny range so i would have been able to try and deny it that's the difference yeah that's the difference so and i know you've got a six for it yeah i barely got it so yeah so obviously you want am i in denial range there still jake can you please check for me because it's a big deal i know i haven't we haven't moved him so no he's not but i think oh god i don't think he's actually no he's not even so i'd have to move into there to get in there that still keeps me outrageous still safer no you're just in 24 then so you can give it a has he got the rule if he doesn't have rising crescendo then he will not be able to charge he is not anyway i've got another plan with the unit so the yellows will charge the score pack yep yeah six that's okay so of course the flip belts coming into play there so you can leap over and in the monks and get all over a and then this unit will charge this just the score pack yes okay yeah on a five so that's not going to be in no unless it might have been a six so we'll make engagement rates they will just be in but they'll be to make it exciting in it it's tense tension stephen well this is a big term for jake because he doesn't get this right then he's in a lot of trouble as i'm constantly reminded then this unit of troops will charge the immortals in the building and i will set to defend clearly if i'm alive that's a massive charge roll for jake as well because clearly he can now probably quite comfortably pick up those fibre models that are inside that ruin and then he's taking that objective off of me and it's on my home objective and it's a unit that could have done retrieval taurus data and relative safety before as well big deal big charge any more charges mr harding that's it that's it that's we're done are we yeah okay so combat this is big so clearly i've got two command points in the pocket to interrupt yeah this is where i need to get it really right so i just need knot it really is because what it makes it work but what if the hairband ever comes undone that's the question i don't want to know what's under there i don't maybe he's just the most elaborate comb over you've ever seen steve i reckon it's like a nest of ferrets under there i mean don't even start what's in his beard he really knows yeah so jake's still thinking about this we're gonna have to put him on the chest clock in a minute yeah and this is sometimes the worry uh with a harlequin army like this when you've got 12 units to move and every unit is so uh you know valuable and vulnerable you really have to make very decisive actions as well um you just cannot afford to make any mistakes and unfortunately you could end up clocking out if you do spend too long on those decisions yeah those first couple of well the first turn can be quite quick but turns two and three can really drag on if you've got a complicated army okay i think they're ready right so if we can go if we go to top down steve and i'll talk the chat through what we're talking about so jake's made a number of charges clearly i've got two command points to be able to interrupt at some point he's also got a harlequin stratagem that allows him to make a normal move instead of consolidating at the end of um of that fight step so he's got two units of harlequins here uh in getting engagement range with my scorpit destroyers he's kept out of um heroic intervention range of the scorpek lord and the chronomancer so his problem is simply four destroyers so which unit does he activate first now he could activate the yellow unit first fight they might pick up a couple of destroyers they might even pick up all four but it's not mathematically guaranteed he can then move on to that objective as long as he gets three on that objective there i've only got two touching it from my necron immortals he'll hold that objective he's likely to pick them up anyway and i'm not going to interrupt over here with immortals he'll then hold four i'll still hold two getting 10 on primary because i would probably interrupt with the score pack and try and pick up these five harlequin players here what he also can do is he can buff this five unit and activate them first in a hope that because he could put two damage on him he's got the troop master in range he picks up all four scorpek these five are then free to move on to that objective he then holds five objectives rather than four next turn and that's the dilemma i mean i don't even think that's a dilemma is it because i think i don't have enough units i don't have enough cps to be able to do it all so i've got enough cps how many cps you got i got five so i need six no you don't yeah because the fallback is two you don't need to use that oh right you absolutely munch that unit score pack with the buffed up unit yeah yeah and you just make it literally pointless for liam to even bother with the consolidate with the strategy and then the yellow team because you've got a four-plus runway still yeah then obviously they can just move on and do whatever they want so you do not have to take liam you don't get greedy just kill the scorpic deal so i need to buff so what i was saying in the chat earlier was that what you should have done is use the yellow team to base every single model of the scorpek yeah and then what you do is you multi-charge with two to three units into the score pack you guarantee the kill uh but you only keep all the other units inside one inch of one model but therefore that would have meant that when uh liam uses the interrupt on that unit he will only be able to swing on the yellow team one model could fight on the unit within an inch but then all the other teams pile in and then swing on the score pack and pick up the entire lot you've swamped the objective and you take them out through mass attacks and then you'd have two cps left over to jump on the other objective and swing him off there as well taking liam down to one yeah so you just go in with the big squad and just roll well say what i i just need plus plus one damage uh plus one plus some damage okay but what i'm saying is that i won't have because this because the full back instead of doing it consolidates two cp yeah you don't worry about that you need to kill the unit okay well i've got command point i'll spen<br><!--
