Oculus Quest 2 SAFETY RECALL | VR News July 2021

what is up player ones and twos welcome to garzoku games i’ve got some vr news for you guys today the video is a little bit late because one of the stories i didn’t get to cover i wanted to show you guys how to receive phone notifications in vr on your oculus quest headset but i couldn’t get it working i went through all the steps got it all set up but then there’s this one step where oculus is like hey if you’re not getting your messages click here and we’ll show you what to do so i click there and they say to click the information button next to the oculus quest 2 headset kinda like you see on my airpods up there but as you can see the button’s not there the button’s not there and i’ve not found any videos of anybody receiving notifications in their oculus headset successfully i’ve seen setup videos but i’ve not seen anybody receive the notification so does it work yet or not i don’t know let me know in the comments aside from that we’ve got a lone echo 2 release date after the fall is being delayed and we have a new confirmed feature from oculus and a rumored feature about some stuff oculus may or may not be working on and we will be covering a safety recall on the facial interface for the oculus quest 2 that was in an email that i did not receive until after i recorded the intro to this video are you ready for the video let’s get into it [Music] unfortunately for you and me and anyone else who’s been waiting on the release of after the fall this game is now being delayed until 2022 rather than 2021 and apparently the oculus quest version will be delayed the longest after the fall was set to release this year for the oculus quest as well as pcvr and playstation vr but now we can all expect to wait a bit longer the developers at vertigo games didn’t really mention why they had to delay it aside from a generic statement saying that they wanted this to be the best co-op experience it can be obviously it’s kind of disappointing to see the release delayed for a game that so many people are anticipating but it is a necessary evil i mean the game’s gotta work a broken game isn’t fun for anybody but here is to hoping that there aren’t any more delays so facebook is experimenting with blending the real world with vr with a new toolkit for developers which allows them to blend data fed through the pass-through cameras with vr graphics it looks like this is a feature that facebook aims to have included with some new oculus vr apps by the end of this year they intend to use the feature in productivity apps as well as gaming applications for example imagine playing beatsaber not in the virtual levels in the game but in an almost disco-fied version of your own bedroom you know like a view of beat saber layered over your room this way your play boundary becomes obsolete since you have the ability to see your surroundings while you’re playing the game facebook said that apps using the camera can’t view or store images or videos from the quest 2 cameras which is one aspect of privacy that facebook wants to make immediately clear but at the same time the pass-through cameras can only show you your surroundings in black and white and in low-resolution images so there’s not a whole lot that can be done with this feature on the oculus quest 2 in my opinion i think facebook might be preparing to enter the mixed reality space with maybe a new headset at some point with better cameras and a bigger focus on mixed reality maybe the quest 3 or the quest pro i’m not sure but the feature has potential and we’ll see what it can do in the near future rumors have been circulating that facebook plans to integrate oculus vr headsets with apple health there was a report from bloomberg in which a former ios developer had found code in the oculus app indicating that users would soon be able to log data from the fitness move application obviously this is just a rumor so there’s not a whole lot of details and nothing is guaranteed but what this could potentially mean is that users would be able to view information like calories burned and exercise minutes from within the oculus headset using data that had already been saved to apple health basically with this new health feature you’ll be able to see how many sessions of beat saber you’d have to play in order to burn off one cheesy gordita crunch from taco bell i personally don’t use my headset for fitness since i try to get my fitness in other ways but all in all this could be a pretty cool feature for those who are interested in using it oh and if you’re enjoying the video don’t forget to tap that like button and subscribe if you want to stick around for more videos in the future i wanted to cover this safety recall with you guys i got this email from oculus just shortly after i had got done editing this news video and i wanted to go ahead and add this topic since it’s something that could benefit a lot of you so it looks like the oculus quest 2 removable interface has been recalled and oculus is going to offer you a free replacement now i know they had already offered this free replacement previously because some people were reporting having issues with the facial interface but it would seem that the issue must be a whole lot more common than we thought thus they are recalling the entire thing and sending out a new replacement to everyone so it looks like they’re just going to give you a silicone replacement in the email they provided me this link so that i can press the go to my devices button and get a free replacement so whatever email you have linked up to your oculus account it might be worth your time to go check it out since they’re offering this free replacement to everyone i would encourage you to go and grab one for yourself loan echo 2 will be heading to the oculus store for pc on the 24th of august oh and i’ve been waiting a long time for this one it’s a sci-fi adventure built around zero gravity traversal and puzzling with the developer promising sharp visuals complex challenges and startling discoveries its prequel lone echo is still one of my top three favorite vr games to this very day and it was released all the way back in 2017 i’d say 2016 through 2018 were some of the best years for pc vr games the original lone echo was an oculus rift exclusive before the quest was even a thing and oculus has said that lone echo 2 will be their last pc vr release for the rift platform after that it’s all oculus quest games and nothing else i’ve been waiting a long time to dive into lone echo 2 and i’m happy it’s almost here but another part of me is sad because august 24th marks the end of an era that i have very much enjoyed it marks the end of big budget pcvr releases from oculus studios games like asgard’s wrath defector stormland and lone echo will be the last of their kind for quite some time pcbr games just aren’t a big focus in the industry right now because vr games that ship the most copies are games developed for the quest platform don’t get me wrong i enjoy playing my oculus quest and plenty of the quest games but i do love my biggest pcvr titles most of all the high graphical fidelity expansive levels enhanced ai and npc interactions are only possible in a powerful gaming pc right now my prediction is it could be a couple of years before we begin to see the release of high quality big expansive pcvr games again we might see a few here and there but i wouldn’t expect the releases to be consistent in any way the truth is for now pcvr is taking a back seat to standalone vr and i think this trend will continue throughout 2022 at least until the playstation vr2 is released which will be a major upgrade in processing power for most standalone vr users which will in turn lead the way to the revival of bigger more complex vr games that can compete with the likes of lone echo and asgard’s wrath demand for these higher level experiences will increase at that point and all of the industry players including oculus will likely feel obligated to compete all i know is i’m super pumped for lone echo 2. it’s a darn shame that we won’t see any more games like this for a while but you can’t say we didn’t see it coming player ones and twos thank you so much for sticking around i it’s i appreciate it if you enjoyed the video don’t forget to tap like subscribe if you want to stick around and i’ll see all you in the next video [Music] you
