that goes back to to abraham because abraham you promised that through his descendant all the nations of the earth would be blessed and now we get to live out that promise in the name of jesus christ who came and and who died and then who rose again so that we could have life but but not for our glory not for the things that that we want or the desires of our heart but god for for your glory so god we want to give all praise and all glory to you jesus name amen i uh i absolutely love hymns there’s a few of them that that really really just i feel like draw us closer draw us closer to god but but not in a way that’s just superficial but with with specific truths and with specific promises and with specific praises and this next song we’re singing is called come now found and there’s a reminder in the song that is absolutely true and that i absolutely love it is it is this it is prone to wander lord i feel it prone to leave the god i love but here’s my heart lord take and seal it seal it for that quartz above even as christians we we won’t live a perfect life but we are in christ we are we are righteous in christ we are declared righteous doesn’t mean that we live perfect lives that that we act perfect all the time but in the words of john it does mean that we have a great high priest who is there and are seating for us and and who we can call to in our times of sinfulness and in our in our times where we where we we need his righteousness to cover us so as we sing this song i i hope that we can keep that in mind that the words of this song would just ring true for us that even though we are prone to wander god we would just know your glory and your goodness [Music] come now found some every blessing to my heart to sing thy grace streams of mercy never say call for songs of loudness praise teach me so melodious sonny sung by flaming tongues above praise the mountain fixed upon the mount of thyroid [Music] help i’m calm and i hope by thy good pleasure safely to arrive at home jesus told me when a stranger wandering from the fold of god he to rescue me from danger interposed his precious blood [Music] oh too great so great a data daily unconstrained to eat let thy goodness like a fader bind my wandering heart to thee prone to wonder lord i feel it prone to god i love here’s my heart lord take and seal it seal it full light quartz are our loudness praise [Music] how deep the father’s love for us how vast beyond old measure [Music] that me should give his only son to make a wretched treasure [Music] how great the pain of steering lost my god my god did not forsake eyes wounds which ma the chosen one bring that sons to glory [Music] behold the man upon the cross [Music] my sin upon his shoulders ashamed i hear my mocking voice call out among the staffers it was my sin that held him near until it was a conflict his dying breath has brought me life i know that it is [Music] it is [Music] i will not boast in anything no gifts no power no is [Music] i will boast in jesus christ his death and resurrection why should i gain from this reward i cannot give an answer but this i know with all my heart his wounds i paid my ransom why should i gain from his this i know with all my heart his wounds have paid my rent song yes this i know with all my heart [Music] his rooms have paid my hearing some [Music] father may we ever trust in the payment of christ for all that we are for all that we long to be how deep is your love for us in jesus name amen you may be seated [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well good morning everybody it’s good to see you here today and for those of you joining us online thank you so much for being with us today if you did not get a paper bulletin this morning for those of you online i’m sure you didn’t but on our southwestern church app you would find our notes there for you to fill in you can even email them to yourselves later for those of you who got a bulletin if you would open them up and get your bibles open to acts 9 that’s where we’ll be all morning we’ll look at a couple other passages but that’s where we’ll basically be today now if you’re visiting with us or if there’s any kind of information you would like us to know in the office if you would take if you’re in house that tear off on the end of your bulletin and uh just kind of fill it out what your needs are like what your wants are we would love to get back with you if you’re visiting we’d love to know just who you are but for members and visitors alike we’d love for you to fill that out if you’ve got anything place it in one of the offering trays on your way out there in the corners and in the middle also at the end of the service if you’re not familiar with the way we do things here we will take communion at the end and uh that communion we won’t be passing trays and so for those of you at home if you would get your elements ready for those of you in the room uh there’s communion again in the corners and in the middle feel free to get up and go get that at any point you will not disturb me i’m hard to disturb because i’m disturbed already okay it is great to see everyone and you’re so welcome here and i i pray i just pray that as we study god’s word today that it would speak deeply to each of our hearts including my own and that it would remind us of what we are here to do on this earth now i want us this morning to consider what the early church had to get past there was some obstacles they had to get past to embrace the mission that god had for them you see god gave the church capital c church a global mission yet for years the church was a local effort just in their own little area and it did not step into its manifold destiny as a universal move of god they allowed fear to limit them because of opposition uh we think we have opposition because somebody said something negative about christianity on facebook that’s not opposition when they’re hunting you down to kill you in the public square that’s different right they allowed fear to limit them because of religious tradition the things that they had grown up under and expected to continue limited them they were also limited because of racism the jews were a very racist type of people especially towards some of us gentiles samaritans even worse i’ve just got to tell you that i’ve got the feeling as i look at this two thousand years later we haven’t really progressed far as i see a lot of our facebook posts i hear a lot of conversation in the hallways and in the foyer sometimes in here and i’ve got to tell you i don’t think that we have progressed far since then we have the same prejudices anybody who looks different than us acts different than us thinks different than us must be wrong that’s a problem and so i pray that as we go through this that as we look at this story of god taking forth the good news gospel message of jesus to the world the world people who don’t look like us people who don’t think like us maybe they don’t smell like us maybe maybe maybe i pray we’ll get this understanding that what was true then is true now and that we need to get beyond our prejudices and move into what honors god to where every person made in the image of god and that is everyone on the planet right now is welcome into the kingdom now as we get moving today i just got to tell you and this is going to probably offend a few and that’s okay but as we look at this encounter between saul and jesus we need to realize that christianity is a converting religion i know that’s not politically correct because we’re supposed to just let people think what they want let them believe how they want to believe but that’s not what jesus has called us to you see if the message of jesus is true is true for anyone and it’s also true for everyone so jesus did not tell the world to go the church you do know that right any church that says all right let’s show up on sunday and open our doors and then people who just come in they’ve got the wrong idea jesus didn’t send the church or the world to go the church jesus told the church to go to the world he said go therefore into all the world and preach the good news of the kingdom i want you to understand something the world already had religion yet jesus told his disciples go to other countries go to other nations who already have their own gods and their own houses of worship and you tell them about me and persuade them to worship me instead oh that settles great in 2021 doesn’t it but that’s the call that’s the mission jesus gave the church now he didn’t say go out and be arrogant go out and look down upon them he also gave us some direction do this with grace and with love because god is wooing them to himself but i want you to understand this morning the church is not a community with a few missionaries you go out there and you can look on the wall you can see some of the missionaries that we support as a church but the church is not a community with a few missionaries the church is truly a missionary community and everyone who has this message about salvation through jesus christ has been commissioned so each of us who are followers of jesus have a message to share where we work where we live in our friendship groups and in today’s encounter we’re going to see jesus launch that mission it’s a beautiful beautiful story and he does so by choosing a man and this isn’t the man that you or i would choose for our team but god knows better this is a man who didn’t just think that christianity should be quieted he thought it should be ended in fact in acts chapter 7 you find a story where stephen is speaking about how jesus is better than moses and the tabernacle and all of those other things that the jews held sperm to and guess what they did they killed him and what do we know about steve about saul he was there he okayed it he applauded it and in fact he thought you know what we should go further instead of just finding them when they’re speaking it we should go hunt them down that’s where we find ourselves today in this encounter it’s in acts chapter 9. it’s going to begin in verse 1. it says meanwhile saul this is the one who had overseen the stoning of stephen they laid their coats at his approval to it saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the lord’s disciples he went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in damascus so that if he found any there who belonged to the way whether men or women he might take them as prisoners to jerusalem as he neared damascus on his journey suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him he fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him saul saul why do you persecute me who are you lord saul ask i am jesus whom you are persecuting he replied now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do now i want to start this morning after reading that passage with just a very important observation i don’t know if this will register with you but for some i think it will i want you to understand that jesus does not call his church capital c not little c his church worldwide the church of jesus christ he doesn’t call it an yet what does he call it me he calls it me saul saul why are you persecuting not the church in jerusalem not the christians around this region what did he say why are you persecuting me now i bring that up because there is someone listening to me right now who needs to hear that maybe you have said in the past i really like jesus but i don’t like the church i have to just tell you you cannot divorce love of jesus from affection for his church you say yeah but the church is full of hypocrites the church is broken the church is flawed and quite frankly the church can be embarrassing my answer to that that’s correct yet jesus identifies with flawed broken embarrassing things like you and like me and jesus loves his church and when we attack the church when we criticize the church when we slander it when we assault it we criticize jesus doesn’t say you’re doing that to it he says you’re doing that to me why would you do that well let’s put ourselves in saul’s shoes for a minute and maybe we’d say you know because i thought it was the right thing to do we know the rest of the story don’t we saul is the perfect example of someone who is absolutely sincere and absolutely sincerely wrong so saul had to go blind to see the truth and i want you to see this morning that first off salvation can reach anyone because saul’s about to be saved salvation can reach anyone even the most skeptical even the most hard-hearted even the persecutor of the faith you see god refuses to give up on anyone there is nowhere salvation cannot reach and paul makes that point later on okay saul becomes paul after he’s saved and he writes two-thirds of our new testament here’s one of his letters to a young preacher named timothy first timothy 1 verses 15 and 16 here’s a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance christ jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom i am the worst but for that very reason i was shown mercy so that in me the worst of sinners christ jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life that was the same guy later who was hunting down at this point in the story christians to bring them to persecute them and hopefully see them die isn’t that a change so do you get it that salvation is all about god it’s not about us i know we live in a world where modern christianity teaches us that that it’s all about us that god valued us so much that he did all this stuff but let me just tell you that’s not what the bible teaches the bible teaches us that salvation even us being saved is not about us it’s about god it’s about his glory it’s about his grace not about us we didn’t find god god found us it’s not like we got god’s attention because we’re so good god got our attention because he’s so good salvation from start to finish is a work of god and that means it can reach anyone because if it was a work of man we would have it limited and i know that there are people probably even listening to me today who think jesus is gone it’s a done deal but then god jesus shows up in their lives he shakes their paradigms and he calls them into the kingdom and all is changed you see the problem is not that god is has limited what who could be reached the problem is the church has his believers have so my question is who have you put off limits because of their past because of her reputation because of his issues are we limiting salvation only to those we think might be interested we have to understand the greater the rebellion the greater the impact of the redemption i mean look at what happens in saul’s life he he becomes the instrument god’s going to use to reach the rest of the world it’s amazing to me that saul came to arrest those who followed jesus yet he got arrested by jesus you see i think the fear is for me that the church often has a view of grace that is much more limited than jesus willingness to extend it let me show you that acts 10 look at or nine look at verse 10. in damascus there was a disciple named ananias the lord called him in a vision ananias now i love ananias you know one of the reasons because of his response i want you to see you have to read into this a little bit he had to believe jesus so fully jesus says hey ananias what’s ananias’s answer yes lord ananias kind of love to say yes lord at least to a point we’re going to hit the end of that road here in just a second but i am amazed at the fact that jesus could just speak to him in a vision and he’s like yeah what do you need i’m good to go it didn’t freak him out he didn’t flip out he didn’t say we don’t do that anymore he said yes lord the lord in verse 11 told him go to the house of judas on straight street and ask for a man from tarsus named saul for he is praying in a vision he has seen a man named ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his uh sight lord ananias answered i have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in jerusalem and he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name okay i want to stop right there for just a sec have you ever felt as though god was speaking to your heart maybe the holy spirit of god was leaning on your heart to go and give grace to someone and then you felt the need to remind god of something you think he might have forgotten that’s where ananias is at right but god i’ve heard about this dude he’s not a good one he’s come here to hunt down christians and take them in to persecute them and to maybe even kill them i’ve heard a lot about this guy as though god didn’t already know who saul was verse 15 but the lord said to ananias go this man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the gentiles and their kings and before the people of israel i will show them how much he must suffer for my name those are two words in modern christianity we don’t typically put put together on my chosen instrument i’ll show him how much he must what suffer huh i watched tv and this guy told me if i followed jesus i’d never suffer anything right that if i followed jesus my family would be healthy i’d never need any money everything would always go right i want you to know there is a very popular yet false doctrine out there of prosperity that says if you follow jesus properly you’ll never want for anything now i will tell you this if you’ll follow jesus you’ll have all you need because he’s all you need but all that other stuff’s a mess i’ll show him how much he must suffer for my name so ananias gets up and he walks across the room with the very last person he ever wanted to meet you know why because salvation can unite anybody we live in such a crazy time people can’t get along on it seems like any topic yet salvation and our need for jesus should should unite anyone i don’t care what kind of music you like to sing what your favorite time to worship is who your favorite politician is what your idea is on eschatology i don’t care about any of that i’m going to tell you if we love jesus we believe the word of god and we are living our lives to serve him there is nothing that should derail that we should be united look at verse 17 of acts 9 then ananias went to the house he entered it he placed his hands on saul and he said the last two words he thought he would ever say brother saul brother saul he’s already told god you do know this dude came here to kill us right the lord jesus who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here he sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the holy spirit it says in verse 18 immediately something like scales fell from saul’s eyes and he could see again he got up and he was baptized and after taking some food he regained his strength saul spent several days with the disciples in damascus at once he began to preach in the synagogues that jesus is the son of god all those who heard him were astonished and asked isn’t he the man who raised havoc in jerusalem among those who call on this name and hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priest yet saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the jews living in damascus by proving that jesus is the christ after many days had gone by the jews okay it starts off the christians don’t trust him because he’s here to hunt him down so god has to work through ananias and speak to ananias go ahead and accept him right so jesus is being preached through saul’s voice now the jews are conspiring to kill him but saul learned of their plan day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him they were just waiting for him to leave the city so they could ambush him and kill him but his followers those who had believed jesus through him took him by night and lowered him in a basket through the opening in the wall that’s going to be the rest of his life trying to avoid being killed before his time was up history tells us that he does reach the end at one time but if you go on through the book of acts you’ll find at least two times where they stone this man and leave him for dead this guy amazes me because he goes back into town to finish the sermon because he’s not quitting until it’s done see i’m scared of you so i quit when it’s time right this guy’s not scared of anything including death and i’m not scared of you i’ve got the microphone you don’t so whatever you say to me i’m just going to pass it on to devin so i will say this we live in such a fractured world i want you to think about the things we divide over lord in the last couple years politics we divide over class we divide over sex we certainly have divided over race if there’s one thing that can unite people that would never want to get together that’s the fact that we all need forgiveness we all need salvation and we can only find it through jesus i can only imagine as i go through passages like this god setting in heaven saying i so wish my people would get past their differences in color get past their differences in gender get past their differences in background and go out and worry about finding my lost children because i think that’s what’s true to the heart of god isn’t it interesting what we’ve made an issue when it’s not his see i just try to live by this truth that doesn’t mean i do it well every day but that is i’m not going to meet a single person this week that doesn’t need grace and none of them needs grace any more than i do and that one common truth transcends everything that i could see about them is different see our common life in jesus christ changes closed minds into open arms and if it doesn’t it should verse 26 of acts 9 when he came to jerusalem he tried to join the disciples but they were all afraid of him not believing that he was a disciple but barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles he told them how saul on his journey had seen the lord and that the lord has spoken to him and how in damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of jesus so saul stayed with them and moved about freely in jerusalem speaking boldly in the name of the lord they didn’t trust saul when he first got to jerusalem until barnabas says hey guys i’ve been with him i’ve watched god work in him he preaches jesus he believes in jesus he’s saved by jesus jesus showed himself to him and what changed closed minds into open arms was a common affection and commitment to jesus you see our future with jesus christ transcends all the stuff from the past that has divided us because grace really is that amazing i’d like to think i’m a walking example of that if it were not for the grace of god i should have been gone a long time ago and no one would have faulted god for it and the grace that ananias brought to saul is the same grace that paul would end up taking to the rest of the world as i said earlier two-thirds of the new testament is written by this man his name was saul it becomes paul the paul who wrote the letters that you read to the churches not not not the ones in the book of revelation but those letters like corinthians galatians and ephesians we were taught how to live you remember god said this is my chosen instrument to carry my name to the gentiles and we know he did his job i’m going to make an assumption and i realize that can be dangerous but i’m going to make an assumption today that almost a hundred percent of the people listening to me are gentiles with not much jewish heritage and blood probably in room and on camera so that means jesus the instrument that god was going to use to take the message of jesus christ out to the gentiles he fulfilled his part you remember you couldn’t do anything to him they put him in jail and what does he do he converts jailers you couldn’t shut this guy up he was so changed so transformed by the good news gospel message of jesus and salvation through christ you couldn’t shut him up and so he just kept telling people he wrote letters he visited people he changed jailor’s lives [Music] i want to talk just for a second you know god said this man is my chosen instrument you know i looked into that greek word that’s used instruments it’s really just a vessel [Music] paul later writes to the corinthians and he talks about hey we’re just clay pots we’re just vessels but we hold a treasure [Music] so paul was god’s vessel to take his grace out to the gentiles do we understand our place in this is not to come in here and learn about paul and what he did is for us to understand that we too are vessels we hold a treasure and that treasure is nothing we’ve done it’s nothing we know it’s nothing we’ve earned the treasure we hold it’s the same grace paul preached [Music] it’s the same salvation he took to the world paul same guy who was changed by blinding light on the road to damascus wrote we’re just clay pots you know clay pots are really not impressive they’re just a bowl just a vessel just a vase the only value is what they hold if you have received the message of jesus if you’re a follower of christ if you’ve received forgiveness from jesus you’re a vessel that holds that message i want you to understand right now it’s not just for you to hold and celebrate that you’ve got it we’re to follow the example of paul and take that treasure to others who don’t know him [Music] trust me you can pour it out completely god will fill it back up [Music] we’re so used to hoarding so used to keeping [Music] that’s not meant to be kept ask me to be shared [Music] you’ll never run out of god’s grace you’ll never run out of the message of salvation so we’re to share it with others just like paul did please know sometimes he did that under serious circumstances we’ve got it easy folks yeah somebody might say well keep your christian stuff to yourself if that’s the worst persecution you get good for you but i’m going to tell you that all over the world there are people dying for this message that we sometimes yawn at there is today people dying for the message of christ trying to take it out you don’t believe me get on any website that has christian martyrdom on it and they’ll they’ll show you how many people have died just this year because they preach the gospel of jesus christ and here in america where it’s so easy we won’t even sometimes tell our neighbors or our family when it’s so easy we’ve got to take it out because this message is for all people it’s not just for people who look like us who think like us it’s for all god’s people you know the book of revelation shows us kind of a picture of who all god’s people are it says around the throne were what people from all nations all ethnicity all backgrounds all colors they were all around the throne and they’re what worshiping god if we’re going to keep this moving we’re going to have to start dumping out our vessels our lives and have god fill it back up you know in closing i i will say this in a recent book i read from david platt he tells a story about a man who was from a predominantly muslim area of the world and it’s an area of the world where uh if you’re a christian you’re not only looked down on and persecuted you’re probably arrested and possibly murdered yet in that area of the world christianity is flourishing it’s like taking off like a a grass fire during a drought so david platt asked this gentleman said why is it that christianity is so explosive in that area and the guy said well when a muslim becomes a follower of jesus the leaders of the church set him down he or she and says all right i want you to give us a list of all the people you know personally who don’t know jesus which of course is almost everybody they know i mean they’re in a muslim predominantly muslim area and then the leaders of the church after the list is made said now mark beside ten names the people least likely to kill you if you were to share the message of jesus with them and then go and share with them and that’s how the church was expanding i’ve got to confess to you sometimes if it’s uncomfortable i haven’t shared and these people are marking the ten names of the people least likely to kill you if you share the name of jesus with them i think we all need that kind of passion i think god in the message of grace and salvation deserves that kind of passion we say we put our life and our eternity in that maybe we need a new encounter with jesus to reinvigorate that passion to share the message of jesus will you pray with me father god we do come before you today and we thank you so much for this opportunity to to study and to worship your name together and father we do understand i pray we do it isn’t about us it’s not because we’re so great that you’ve saved us it’s because you’re so great you’re so loving you’re so gracious it’s not because boy we have done something good the only thing that we can do is come to you in faith in jesus christ your son that you have sent for us and trust in him for our forgiveness and our salvation but father i’m afraid that sometimes we’ve failed to remember our responsibility with that we’ve come as vessels and you’ve filled us up with your grace and your love and your mercy and your forgiveness and i’m afraid sometimes we’ve forgotten we’re we’re supposed to go pour that out to others so would you just break through to us maybe it’s the same kind of situation maybe we have prejudice again against somebody who looks different than us break that in our hearts [Music] maybe it’s people of other faiths and we’re afraid of not being politically correct let us with grace and love share what you’ve done for us through jesus i don’t know what we all need but i know we all need jesus and we need more of him every day so father as we come to like this invitation time would you just speak to each of our hearts and if there’s something that you’re wanting to do in us would you do it and would you do it now and would you do it powerfully in the name of our savior jesus we pray these things amen we stand we’re going to sing a song of invitation and commitment and if there’s something that you know god has stirred up in your heart if you would just meet me at this door right over here in this corner i would love to go over into a classroom pray with you visit with you i don’t know what that decision might mean be maybe to follow jesus for the first time to to take a step and say i want to be be baptized into christ or or maybe you know it’s time for you to become a member of this church family i don’t know what it is but if something is stirring in your heart just come and talk to me we’ll go deal with that together as devin leads us [Music] i cast my mind to calvary when jesus bled and died for me i see his wounds his head’s his feet [Music] my savior wrong that cursed tree [Music] his body bounced and drenched in tears they laid him down in joseph’s tomb the ancient sealed by heavy stone messiah still [Music] and all along oh praise the name of the lord our god oh praise his name forever more foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] then on the third i’d break off dawn the sun of rose again oh temple dead [Music] [Music] oh praise the name of the lord our god oh praises [Music] [Music] praise the name of the lord i think god oh praises me forevermore foreign [Music] [Music] he shall return in romes of white the blazing sun shall pierce the night [Music] and i will rise among the saints my gaze transfers on jesus oh praise the name of the lord our god who praises his name forever more for endless days we will sing your praise o lord o lord our oh praise the name of the lord our god o praise its name forever [Music] [Music] lord our god [Music] amen you may be seated if you have not uh if you’re a follower of jesus and you have not gotten your communion yet please feel free to get up and go get that in the corners in the middle here and those of you at home i hope you have it ready we’re going to continue this idea of grace as we move into this idea of this cop it’s only by grace that we’re saved right through faith it’s not of our own it’s what jesus did for us that’s his cup isn’t it i mean he gave his body that’s the cracker right he gave his blood and let it be shed to cover our sins saw by grace man where we’re reminded of our salvation we’re reminded of many things in this cup that we talked about today it is all of god men would not have come up with this would we let’s say someone comes to me and said you know you sacrifice your kid we’ll let everybody else go depends on the day i might go for that i might not chances are i wouldn’t god’s ways are so much higher than ours because it also required perfect didn’t just require anyone required a perfect sacrifice jesus fit that bill it’s through god’s grace and jesus obedience that we’re able to come around this table today and remember the body and the blood of jesus let’s do that together today as we take that cracker let’s be reminded of the body of jesus thank you as we drink this juice let’s be reminded of the blood of jesus christ father we do thank you so much for the blessings that we have because of your grace shown to us through jesus christ our lord and through our faith in him we can receive that we don’t earn it we don’t deserve it but by grace you’ve given it to us so father today as we partake of communion let us be reminded of your forgiveness let us be reminded of our salvation but let us also be reminded of our responsibility to take that treasure that you’ve placed in us that good news gospel message that grace and that salvation that love and share it with others father we do love you let us show that and how we live in christ’s name we pray amen as we get ready to exit today i want to remind you there’s many ways if you’ve got tithes and offerings today for you to give if you give cash or check if you would use an envelope if you use cash especially especially you’ll find them on those tables that way we can credit it to you at the end of the year’s tax deductible giving otherwise the best and easiest probably way to give today would probably be off of our website or off of our app you know there’s some who are still using the old uh push pay app and we’re trying to get away from that if you’ve got android if you’ve got apple you’ve only got the sub splash app and so if you got android and you don’t have the sub splash app please please consider switching those so that for one you’d be able to pull up our notes any time during the week but for two you would be on the right giving out thank you so much though for your generous giving both towards our regular ties and offerings but also as i mentioned last week towards kelby and i’s trip be praying that that gentleman gets his dadgum passport in the next few days because we are down to a week and two days before we leave and so we need him to get his passport but what else oh there’s some announcements in your bulletin in fact i need to go over them i don’t have one in front of me so i’m going to try it by memory and just know this i missed one thing by memory already in the bulletin okay so let’s see if i can do this uh next sunday on the 5th is a big day for us a big day for devon but it’s a big day for us since i’ve been here anyway he is the first the bible calls it to timothy basically because paul timothy was an understudy of paul and paul set timothy out for ministry we’re ordaining devin scott for ministry next sunday it’s a big deal and i i just asked that you’d be praying about it during the week i in fact have never done this i’ve ordained elders and deacons i’ve never ordained a pastor before the only ordination i’ve been a part of was my own and i can remember that was a tearful experience uh but i i pray that you’d be praying for for devon but not just him but madeleine because anybody who knows anything about ministry knows it’s not just him called to ministry in that right and so uh we’re appreciative of them and and so just be getting prayerfully ready for next week that’ll be a fun deal it’s also family sunday and so our kids will be in here which will be awesome i think and here’s why they need to see somebody who grew up here graduated high school through this church now he was in hammond but he was recognized here as a graduate sent to bible college coming back now being set aside for ministry they they need to see that i i believe just as if somebody grew up in here and now are becoming an elder same thing and so that’ll that’ll be a fun fun day now not this coming tuesday but the following tuesday there’ll be an elder’s meeting at eight o’clock i trust now i’ll be on an airplane but i trust there’ll be an elders meeting at eight o’clock in room 105 on that’s that be the seventh be the seventh now on the eighth all of our wednesday night stuff kicks off so you’ve got kids stuff kicking off you’ve got men’s stuff and women’s stuff kicking off and uh i just hope you’ll come and try it out i know uh james has been passing out some invitations to men for for being there now this coming saturday i skipped ahead of myself a little bit on the fourth it’s fourth isn’t it bill men’s breakfast i i know it is uh labor day weekend but mike moore is going to be here to share with us that day and you’re not going to miss want to miss that guys so you want to be here to listen to mike and to share breakfast and just be together and um let me see where am i got wednesday night covered that sunday the leadership meeting at one o’clock i’ll be gone i hate to miss a meeting i i don’t mind meetings uh but there will be a meeting that sunday at one o’clock and let me see i know the ladies met last night i thought they were meeting friday and so i came in last night to heat up some pulled pork jacob had brought me and there’s all these women meeting and i was like whoops but it looked like they were having fun and to their credit gentlemen they did offer me some dessert they actually offered me all the food they had but i had this pulled pork i needed to eat but they were generous and gracious but i wanted to get out of there here pretty quick before they killed me but uh y’all have a wonderful week let me pray and we’ll get out of here father we love you and we thank you so much for this chance that we’ve had to be together would you just take us through the week help us to be kind of instruments of your grace to others we love you and we thank you for all that you do for us it’s in christ’s name we pray amen god bless you have a great week
