sima liu is ready for viewers to experience chongqi and the legend of the ten rings he tells people how important it is that marvel is celebrating asian culture with its latest film we had incredible storytellers that guided this movie from the get-go in destin daniel crenton and dave callahan two you know incredible asian asian american storytellers in their own right who collaborated on the script along with andrew lanham and just made something that was so distinctly you know asian and also asian american you know something that’s just such a celebration of of our culture and our and our lifestyle and you know even down to the minutia of like the karaoke scene with shawn and katie just understanding how many people live that life and and how many you know drunken nights of karaoke that we’ve all had um it’s just so great to see that represented front and center in this movie simul hustled hard for the role and explains why the opportunity turned out to be more than he could have asked for i more or less just like prostrated myself and was like go i want this role no i i tried to play cool i tweeted marvel i was like hey marvel are we gonna talk or what and of course i didn’t think that anybody would be on the other side i didn’t think anybody would ever you know in a million years actually give me the role when i say that this is a dream come true i mean that is such a huge understatement this is everything i’ve ever wanted i mean i i used to love watching marvel movies when i was a kid even before you know pre-mcu it was like we had you know the tobey maguire spider-man and the and the um you know even like ghost rider with nicholas cage like all of the obscure random superhero movies like if there was a superhero i wanted to watch it and and so this is just a total dream come true for me simu hopes his success instills confidence in a new generation of young asians who can now see themselves represented on screen if i could have my career stand for one thing it’s that you know i i want kids who grew up like me and families similar to mine to feel proud of who they are and to feel like they can belong in the places in the places that they lived in and grew up in without constantly being ostracized or being told to go back to their country or being told that their english wasn’t good enough cenu left behind an accounting career to pursue acting something he admits took time for his parents to get on board with they’re very proud they were with me at the premiere two days ago i i took them in the in the car with me and when we turned on hollywood boulevard and we saw the entire street shut down and the fans and we saw the posters and everything i mean i think we all collectively were like wow we looked at each other and it was clear that neither of us had ever expected in a million years that our family would be here but um i think i think they are proud and i think they have made peace with the fact that i am not a doctor and not a lawyer we had a lot of arguments about it my parents felt like i was throwing my life away and i think they continued to kind of just grow and evolve as i did as an artist they kind of continued to to grow as parents and and begin began to understood why it was so important for me to pursue this and and you know why it was important to support me and um you know fast forward to today you know they’re my best friends and um i couldn’t have i was just beaming with happiness as uh as i walked the red carpet because i knew that they were right beside me and they were watching for more on cimulio pick up this week’s issue of people on newsstands friday
