coming up tonight singapore’s daily covet 19 case count is back in the hundreds the highest since august 1st testing operations at the north coast lodge dormitory have been completed more than 5 300 residents were tested and authorities are investigating the cause of an explosion from a manhole in bukit batuk west today [Music] hello this is the straits times news night good evening i’m dylan um now we begin with singapore’s kovit 19 situation 116 new cases in total reported today of which 111 are locally transmitted that is the highest daily count in over three weeks since august 1st of the 87 community cases 24 are linked to previous cases and have already been placed on quarantine 30 are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance 33 are currently unlinked 24 of the cases are linked to the north coast lodge cluster adding to the 62 detected on monday in its latest update the health ministry said that testing operations at the dormitory have completed and only 12 test results are pending in all more than 5 300 residents were swapped over the past three days earlier the manpower ministry said that all 62 of the cases detected on monday were fully vaccinated the first three cases were detected through rostered routine testing while at the same time wastewater tests showed viral fragments the confirmed cases were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms and have been moved to a healthcare facility all other residents of the dorm will also be tested frequently over the next few weeks investigations are underway following an explosion from a manhole in bukit batul west day that occurred on the ground floor of the estate’s multi-story car park dash cam video footage of the explosion made its rounds on social media today with the incident said to have occurred around 9 00 am at block 439 booked battle west no injuries were reported and scdf said preliminary investigations indicate that the incident is accidental in nature the town council also said it has activated all relevant agencies to check on all the manholes in the area when it rains it pours the amount of rain that fell in three hours this morning was more than what singapore normally gets for the whole of this month according to pub between 7 50 am and 10 40 am the weather station at bukit panjang road recorded 159.8 millimeters of rainfall that is 109 of singapore’s average monthly rainfall in august today’s prolonged heavy rain caused a flash flood along dunham road between sam derby center and binjai park traffic was impossible for about 40 minutes until water levels subsided now this is the second time this year that a flash flood has occurred in dunan road near sime derby center so this particular area that saw flash floods today is historically known to be flat prone so that area i guess is pretty much low lying compared to other areas and when you have heavy heavy rain like what happened in april and again today you will see flash floods um i think the incidents are also happening amid ongoing works to widen and deepen the bukima canal which is in the area and when completed um the ministry of sustainability and the environment did say that when this is done by 2024 the maximum water level in this section of the canal is expected to be one meter lower for the same rainfall intensity that we saw back in april back in april the heavy rain was caused by two different types of weather phenomena a sumatra squall as well as the effects of a storm brewing of the philippines for today’s rain i’m still waiting for updates from nea about the cause of the rain heavyweight today but they did mention they didn’t warn that throughout the second fortnight of august we will be expecting more rain than usual because the monsoon rain ban is hovering over our region u.s vice president kamla harry is leaving singapore tonight after her three-day visit walking up the steps of air force 2 and giving a final wave goodbye her next stop vietnam before
