St Matthew Church: Daily Mass

hmm please stand the masses afternoon is of the souls of walter percino and dominic scarfoam in the name of the father and the son of the holy spirit amen the grace of our lord jesus christ the love of god you may the holy spirit be with you i all our theme is that we should have a true and open heart because we talk about hypocrisy of the scribes and the pharisees my brothers and my sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate these sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words and what i have done and what i have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen lord have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy let us pray oh god who brought saint louis from the cares of the earthly rule to the glory of a heavenly realm grant we pray through his intercession that by fulfilling our duties on earth we may seek out our eternal kingdom through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen a reading from the first letter of saint paul to the thessalonians you recall brothers and sisters our toil and drudgery working night and day in order not to burden any of you we proclaim to you the gospel of god you are witnesses and so is god how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behave toward you believers as you know we treated each one of you as a father treats his children exhorting and encouraging you and insisting that you walk in a manner worthy of the god who calls you into his kingdom and glory and for this reason we too give thanks to god inc unceasingly that in receiving the word of god from hearing us you received it not as the word of men but as it truly is the word of god which is now at work in you who believe the word of the lord the responsorial psalm you have searched me and you know me lord you have searched me and you know me lord where can i go from your spirit from your presence where can i flee if i go up to the heavens you are there if i sing to the nether world you are present there you have searched me and you know me lord if i take the wings of the dawn if i settle at the farthest limits of the sea even there your hand shall guide me and your right hand hold me fast you have searched me and you know me lord if i say surely the darkness shall hide me and night shall be my light for your for you darkness itself is not dark and night shines as the day you have search me and you know me lord my brothers and my sisters the lord be with you a reading of the holy gospel according to matthew jesus says woe to you scribes and pharisees you hypocrites you are like whitewashed tombs which appear beautiful on the outside but inside are full of dead man’s bones and every kind of filth even so on the outside you appear righteous but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evil doing woe to you scribes and pharisees you hypocrites you build tombs of the prophets and adorn with memorials of righteousness and you say if we had lived in the days of our ancestors we will not have joined them in shedding the prophet’s blood thus you bear witness against yourselves that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets now fill up what was your ancestors measured out the gospel of the lord jesus is speaking in today’s gospel about the hypocrisy and you find it in saint matthew’s gospel and he’s directing it to the scribes and the pharisees and he calls them you know evil men even though they’re supposed to be righteous or they pretend to be righteous and he says that they are like whitewashed tombs but inside they are dead like the bones of the man in with filth so he’s really indicting them in fact you know for the last three days you’ve heard that a gospel woe to you scribes and pharisees this and that and everything else so monday yesterday and today saint matthew’s gospel all had woes about the scribes and the pharisees they were supposed to be shepherds they were supposed to lead the people but that they still so felt righteousness that they really didn’t obey the laws they imposed laws on the people difficult laws but then they didn’t follow themselves so jesus really indicting them that they are hypocrites and they shouldn’t be leaders of the people paul’s gospel speaks about humility just the opposite about hypocrisy paul says that we’re not imposing anything on you we’re not taking advantage of you financially because paul paul and and the other two they worked and after work they were preaching you know the gospel impulse paul said we’re not treating you as you know subject subjects we’re treating you like children like a father takes care of his children encourages them you know takes care of them you know and also he said that i want you to hear god’s word and live god’s word as best you can so we have the opposite of what we heard in the gospel hypocrisy and this part of that first reading of thessalonians of humility today we celebrate two saints saint louis st louis became king of france at 15 years old someone said 12. i read different versions but i suggest 15. and his mother helped him she was the regent his mother was blanche and he was you know should i say very holy a very holy person i think he got it from his mother and he wanted to get jerusalem back from the muslims so he’s interested in going crusades he went in several crusades on the last crusade he died in tunisia which is now present algeria he was also interested in leprosy so he you know took care of those who had leprosy supported them interested also in education so he endowed us a famous university or sorbonne you know he also received the crown of thorns from a christian emperor from constantinople and he built something chappelle you know as a whole reliquary for the thorns i was in it but then i reflected the other night when i saw that he built something chappelle i didn’t know he built it and it’s if you go to you know the even on the computer type in santa chapelle paris beautiful beautiful takes you all around you know it’s not very big not very big but it’s absolutely magnificent it’s all stained glass you know the whole walls are all stained glass absolutely beautiful he died in 1270 you know a very holy and religious person the other person is saint joseph calazans born in aragon spain very learned individual in fact he got doctorate degrees in canon law and also physical law the cardinal kelowna in rome invited him to be his theologian and he goes to rome and he sees the travesty in rome this is in 16 maybe like 16-15 and he goes to tristevere which is the oldest section of rome and he saw all these young boys orphans and you know reagan just on the street so he decided to form a school for poor boys so that was the beginning of the order that he established the clerks religious of schools and other men came and joined the order right now there’s about 1300 priests in the order he was so instrumental in helping the cardinal that he became you know vicar general he became representative of the pope he was the confessor of the pope he was very very helpful at the vatican at that time and he died in 1648 he had a little problems with those in the order you know men will be men and um they were a little you know upset with him because he was a little on the strict side they wanted him to make the order a little more lenient and there was a lot of controversy pope innocent the tent got involved and they suppressed the order and then after a while they realized that it wasn’t his fault at all it was other people’s faults so he suffered greatly you know greatly yeah so we honor him today please stand heavenly father we thank you for the opportunity being here today we ask you to watch over us and guide us and help us to be truthful father we pray for walter and dominic that they may be sharing everlasting and eternal presence in heaven let us pray to the lord we pray for all saint matthew parishioners those in convalescent homes those in hospitals and those who are home sick or lonely let us pray to the lord we pray for our brothers and sisters who are suffering because of their faith in jesus especially in the middle east in africa and south and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy o lord the fount of old holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed he entered willingly into his passion he took bread and give you thanks he broke it gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you and the similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it but this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith we proclaim your death o lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring it to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope frank our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse for your blessed apostles saint matthew and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages remain merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father and the unity of the holy spirit glory and honor is yours forever and ever amen at the savior’s command informed by divine teaching we dare
