Stamping with Jen Peaceful Deer How to Make a Squash Card

hello happy wednesday i am jennifer kirk i’m an independent stamping up demonstrator from guelph ontario and we are going to play with the peaceful deers again we’re gonna make this really really cute it’s called a squash card it’s a fancy full card um and it opens up wow isn’t that awesome so we’re gonna make this tonight we hope we’re gonna make this tonight um i’m hoping i haven’t bitten off too much that i can chew but let me give me a minute i’m gonna get set up on my ipad here so i can see and who i’m stamping with just give me one moment um where am i so how are you guys are you enjoying the heat my goodness it is crazy let me find my volume and turn it down okay one mute all right so if you’re here watching with me please leave a comment let me know that you’re here um i don’t see any comments i just need to get this organized all right i can’t really see that but hopefully all right hey linda all right it’s working woohoo so we’re going to play with the peaceful deers again i do have a class coming up with this set um registration is open until the 30th of august so five more days um and you know what i have fallen in love with this set it is so i i’m gonna make quite a few of my christmas cards with it so um i saw this card i was watching um lisa’s stamp studio on youtube and she did this card she did it in three different sizes i’m just going to show you one tonight and i loved it so i thought i would figure out how to make it and share it with you guys tonight so wish me luck that it’ll work it’s actually quite easy but it is pretty stunning it will fit into a regular size envelope you will need because it is pretty thick you will need to add some additional um postage for it but it is kind of a wow card and there’s a little corner here to hold it together you could do a ribbon but on this side the back panel i have glue all over it actually becomes your uh where you’re going to write your sentiment so um this little corner clip you could do a paper clip as well and decorate that but this little corner clip kind of will keep it together all right so let’s get started so you can see that this card is also really good because it uses up your dsp so this dsp is um called playful patterns i believe and it’s free it’s uh one of the celebration papers and it’s free until well while supplies last um until the end of celebration which is the end of september so um you can tell i’ve been using quite a bit of this paper but i’ll just show you really quickly the pattern so it’s your traditional reds and greens for christmas that cute and some sahara sand in there and then on the other side and this is free did i say that oh love it and the other side there’s some other pretty cool patterns that you can use for winter it’s not just christmas that can be used for winter or for for anything really all right so let’s get going how are you doing linda how how are you in this heat it is stinking hot all right so we’re using the peaceful deer bundle so i’m just gonna place this out of the way we will need it a little bit later so i will update uh the post with all the measurements um but you will need two pieces of 7×7 cardstock okay same color i’ll show you how we’re going to score that in a bit you will need i’m just turning all my papers out um you will need four basic white squares and these are oh my goodness i lost my cheat sheet these are three and a quarter by three and a quarter and you will need some different designs of um designer series paper that all coordinate together and these are three by three okay so three and a quarter three by three they’re designed to oh no they’re not did i they must be no they’re both three and a quarter sorry i am uh they’re both the same size so three and a quarter by three and a quarter um and then depending on how we design the front we may need some more dsp but i’ll see how we go with that all right so seven by seven what we’re gonna do is bring in our score tool so you will need a scoring tool you’re in the stamp room and having fun that’s what i like to hear woohoo are you gonna share with what you’re creating linda i would love to see all right so seven by seven we are going to score it in half this way score it in half this way and score it in half on the diagonal so we’re going to line this up at three and a half okay and make sure you have the right blade and we’re going to score it we’re going to flip it around scored at three and a half okay and then we are going to line this up and line this up in the track okay hopefully that’s lined up i’m not over top of it because of the camera’s in the way and we are gonna score it this way okay so you’re gonna do that for both pieces of paper i scored one um before the video so that you don’t have to watch me score okay so now we’re gonna do is we’re gonna burnish these so i’m just going to fold them along score line give them a nice crease fold them along the score line give it a nice crease and do the same along the diagonal now with the diagonal before you crease it you do want to make sure because sometimes we don’t line up perfectly you do want to make sure that your corn you can’t see it because i’m doing red on red you want to make sure that your corners are lined up nicely before you burnish and then you burnish okay so that’s one piece ready let’s burnish the other one so again do you guys notice i have a clean relatively clean bone folder i uh i went into my class kits and got one out because it’s really embarrassing when i uh pull this one out on video and it has all my ink on it from my distinctive stamping when i wipe the ink off to get it not as juicy so i have a clean one yay all right so we’re gonna do that so now we have the two pieces so what we’re gonna do oh well that’s okay you can still share i’m sorry i’m just reading i’m just reading linda’s comment so what we want to do is we want to put this um we want to hold it on the diagonal okay so this is the way it was scored we want to hold it on the diagonal and what we’re going to do is if i can figure out how to do it is we are going to fold it in okay so it’s not going to work for me of course because i’m on camera okay so we are going to fold it in so that it’s we’re just going to lift the sides up you see how it’s starting to collapse and we’re just going to collapse it in to a square okay so and then i’m going to burnish this you do want to give it a good burners you want nice crisp creases here all right so that’s one we’re going to do the exact same thing with this one so we’re going to um lift it up it will go one way there we go it’s coming there see it just flipped and push it down okay do you got that so we just fold it in so we’re making a nice little square okay so we have two little squares which would now make the base of our card all right so this is this is the only tricky part you do want to use liquid glue for this okay you want to put these on so that the diagonal one is pointing straight up and down so you want to put these on the diagonal you don’t want them like this you want them on the diagonal straight up and down okay and you’ll notice that there’s two squares on each that are flat that don’t have a crease in it what we want to do is we want to join these two together okay just like this so we’re just going to glue it but we want one to have the folds folding down and this one has to be opposite so if this one is folding down we want this one to be folding up so i actually have to turn that around and stamp it glue it here so it’s opposite so mountain fold valley fold very important they have to be on the diagonal line up the two squares and make sure one is a mountain fold and one is a valley fold okay and then we’re gonna glue those together all right and you don’t want too much glue unlike what i always do because it squishes out the end i opened up a new glue just for tonight so it’s very juicy okay and we’re just gonna glue that down easy peasy all right and now we’re ready let’s to assemble our card this will fold in it will go it will go did i do it backwards no please don’t say i did it backwards i may have done it backwards no it works okay once you fold it a few times it’ll become much easier so this is our card base so what you’re going to notice when you look at this one okay is when you open it this is is flat up and down so straight up and down when you open these ones they’re on an angle so you want to make sure that you’re stamping on an angle but the first thing that we’re going to do is we’re going to get our dsp on and decorate it so all we’re gonna do is we’re gonna take our dsp and we’re gonna cut these let me get all the white out of there we’re gonna cut these in half on the diagonal so that they fit on the little pieces here okay so i’m going to bring in my trimmer down and line up corner to corner i should have done some of these because you guys really don’t need to watch me cut tsp but you know here we are okay corner corner give it a cut and you can use either side of the dsp whichever colors you’d like whichever ones you guys are gonna have to tell me which one you like better the green one or the red one both of them are using the same paper um sorry i’m concentrating it’s been one of those days so as my son started his very first job today so i didn’t get much sleep because i was worried all night about him working today but he did find he had fun so that is good that’s exciting and my poor puppy needs surgery he’s that’s not exciting okay so we can just set these any which way we want okay they don’t have to be in any rhyme or reason we do want the patterns some of these we can leave we can cut even we can even cut more dsp if we want um and put um dsp on all of them uh i don’t particularly like the plaid on there so i might not use this one do i want a deer maybe not maybe okay now if you do have directional paper like this one you do want to make sure that you cut them kind of in the right way so that they’re not upside down this is okay they’re sideways so i might just use that you might use the plaid what do you guys think does this look okay do i want to leave these ones red or do i want to put the plaid on here i think it’s a little dark okay i think i’m gonna leave them red what do you guys think i can’t see my there’s a big glare on my video okay so all we’re gonna do now is we’re gonna glue these down so well i do like that pattern i should have done two of these ones all right we’re gonna do this one so you can decorate them however you want obviously there’s no right way and i’m just gonna glue it off there is lots of gluing on this lots of paper good way to use up your stash so you can buy more that’s my rationale if i use up on my paper then i can buy more but if i have all this paper i haven’t used then i can’t buy more so i use it okay red is good you like the red all right um yeah so my poor puppy has something wrong with his eye and he has to have surgery in a couple of weeks they could that’s the first time they could get him in so the poor little thing has this funny little it’s called a cherry eye i don’t know if you guys heard of that i’ve never heard of it before um so he’s got a gland on the inside of his eye that is um popped out of his eyeball eyelid it’s kind of really gross actually all right so we are that’s it cute so we’re ready to stamp on the inside so i went ahead and i stamped one already did i stamp one or two i just stamped one um so we can decorate the other two and then decorate the front and then we’re done so let’s glue this one on okay so it just says it’s the best time of the year and in the reindeer it says oh what fun in case you can’t see that on the uh no it doesn’t hurt well the vet says it doesn’t hurt them so i’m hoping the vet is telling me the truth that poor little guy but um yeah says it doesn’t hurt so okay so i’m gonna put in um sending love and peace this season so on the first side i have it’s the best time of year because i’m gonna put merry christmas on the front and then i’m gonna put sending love and peace this season and then wishing you a wonderful year of friendships dear because i thought that was kind of sweet like it dear dear although they should have spelt it stepping up should have spelt it as in or this kind of deer and then it would have been oh no where is it oh yeah this one so this stamp set has tons of like trees and everything we could decorate really cool now when you are um stamping with photopolymer because it doesn’t have a nice little cushion you do want to use a cushion underneath it just gives you a cleaner stamp and for this to get my stamping straight i do need the grid paper so i’m going to use real red and all we do is i line up this corner and this corner so that my stamping will be straight okay because again we’re we’re stamping on an angle so if you line up the corner and the top and the top on the same line hopefully that is on the same line and i’m not going cross side and then we just give it a step so sending love and peace this season and i’ll just stick that there and then how do we want to decorate this let me see [Music] this is going to be the one on the inside and just i pre-colored these for you so these guys i just stamped in um crumb cake and i colored with my crumb cake blends and i fussy cut that my scissors this one i just cut out of the dsp and i just want to see if it matches i’m going to close this um i’m just going to see if it matches in here i should have done the stamping up higher so i could have put the deer in because you don’t want anything over the edges there um okay he’s not going to go in there he is going to which one am i going to put here i’m going to put one of these ones here so i can put that one there that’ll work all right so you do need to fit your stuff um within the square you can’t be hanging over the square so i’m going to put this here there is a little ground because you don’t really want your your deer floating right so i’m going to put a ground there i’m just going to do it in crumb cake oh my lighting is all over the place hopefully you guys can see this okay yeah it doesn’t seem to be bothering them linda it’s just uh it just looks really gross like it looks really gross it’s this big red lump it almost looks like a tumor coming out of his eye we’re supposed to massage it to try and get it in yuck okay oh no i just put my fingers in the crumb cake we could put some trees i don’t know what do you think do you want trees why don’t we just leave it like this you know what i will add a little bit of bling i’m going to bring in this crazy paper from celebration and i’m just going to punch out a couple of um antlers you have to be really strong with this paper because it’s really thick see there i got to get more muscles so i can punch my paper but it’s really blingy so it’s kind of cool what do you think too much bling no i think it works all right so i’m gonna glue the glue dot those on we’re almost done guys honest there’s a lot of gluing on this one yeah he’s a poor pup but i don’t know between uh between you and i i think i went into the wrong field because poor pop for sure and it breaks my heart but it’s also poor pocketbook oh my goodness i got the uh the quote yesterday for the surgery it’s like oh really i need to go into surgery then i could retire and do stamping all right isn’t that cute oh i love that paper on their antlers okay and then we’re just going to glue them down brand new glue so it comes out way too fast you don’t want this much glue because it will make a mess on your card just put a little bit of glue up here and stick her down you do not want to be covering up your sentiment so there you go oh you moved okay there’s one done so now we need the back greeting as well so same thing we want to line up the corners so that we are stamping straight when the card is set up and what sentiment do we one in there we want wishing you a wonderful year with friendships dear now this time i want the deer coming across here so i’m going to stamp just up to the right and i’m going to stamp this in a real red and we do i’m going to bring them down just because you do want a little bit of okay do i want it here or here you want a little bit of space to be able to write ah let’s stick it here all right so we will attach these two panels and then we are done the inside of our card and then we just have the outside to decorate so let’s glue him down and leaving some space so you see how i i his foot is coming over the edge here i will have to trim that um because you can’t on this card you can’t have anything coming over the edges so we’re going to stick this one here now i like the liquid glue on this because it gives me a little bit of time to put it on the wrong way and move it did you see i almost put it on upside down so don’t do that make sure that your card is facing the right way don’t get glue all over it like i just did and we’ll put this one right in the middle so isn’t this cute i just love this uh card design that um that lisa shared so that was a lisa stamping studio again um and she did three different sizes of this so this this will pop in there we go okay so that’s that so i am going to trim him now for the front different things that we can do on the front of the card okay so we can just do this and stamp on it we can do let me get all my little pieces out here you’re gonna have to tell me which one you like okay so we can put this here and put some dsp across okay we can glue those down and then we can put a [Music] merry christmas i did cut it out i think in black what do you guys think black or red and put a merry christmas across the front um and just a little deer i think that would be cute a or we can just do [Music] not the dsp and just keep it simple with merry christmas and a little deer which one do you like the dsp behind hey krista how’s it going um i think i like the dsp i don’t know what do you guys think dsp or no dsp or just one strip of dsp and not three any thoughts i don’t know which one let’s try let’s try the three strips of dsp so this one here i just did one and i stamped okay um this one which is another one that i did which is a happy birthday i did this one um with the penguins a little cute there i love it um and this one i did with this just the strips so i think let’s try the christmas one with the strips what do you guys think just the size so one says just the sediment the other says the plaid so just just the plaid here so this with the deer or this on its own i think that’s a little plain what do you guys think okay i’m going to do [Music] let me look one more time you would think that i would have an idea of what i wanted to do before the video but i don’t i think that’s kind of cute okay we’re going to do that sorry guys i want to see what it looks like so we do want to get these so that they’re equal distance so again don’t push them down too hard um because the glue gives you a couple of seconds to line them up so center i’m going to move this one up a little and let’s hope this one i can get in the middle okay so let’s move them see how it’s magic that you have a little bit this one’s probably getting close there we can move it a bit move it a bit move it a bit that’s pretty good pretty lined up okay now we don’t want it to move so let’s push it down oh see it moved all right so i have put adhesive sheets on the back okay red or black black we’re gonna go black too much red um you could superimpose the merry christmas yeah i could do that couldn’t i i don’t want any more um any more bulk on this you could also you could um pop it up too but um it is a really thick card can the post will love it if you do these as your every day christmas card that you’re sending out to everybody because it will cost a little bit more in postage so we do want to make sure that we get out these little bitty bits here um see it just stuck to my hand okay and i’m putting them on a bit of an angle get the pieces off and stick the deer on okay we’re almost done we’re just gonna do the cute little um a cute little corner clip to hold this card together so let’s attach this and then we’re done if i can remember how to do the corner clip now you do want to make sure that your card is opening the right way and that you’re putting this on not upside down ask me how i know i’ve done that before so isn’t this cute what do you guys think like it i should have done a different color but oh well live and learn all right so the front little piece we need what size is this this is um i don’t recall let me measure okay this is two and a half by two and a half so we just want to score this um let me move all my little pieces we just want to score this in half make sure you don’t cut so it’s two and a half so that is what’s what’s that oh my goodness one and a quarter okay so we’re gonna score at one and a quarter flip it around score at one and a quarter get your fingers i hope my fingers are all gluey so it’s sticky i really need to have a washroom a hand washing um place in my craft room now so we have four squares we’re gonna just cut one out cut one cut one all right and then what are we going to do let me remember we’re going to cut this one at an angle just to make it a little bit less bulky okay and then we’re making a little um pocket that’s all we’re gonna do is just make a little pocket okay so you see what i did i cut one out cut this on a little bit of an angle fold this up fold this around and it creates a pocket so we’re going to put a pretty strong adhesive on this little piece here so i am going to use my stamping steel if i can get it to work and [Music] oh this stuff is so strong it always it rips my cardstock sometimes if i’m not careful okay and then we’re just gonna fold it over okay simple simple and then just put a little piece of dsp on the corner and we have a little clip to keep our car closed is that cute there we go so which one you guys like better the greens or the reds i don’t know i like them both this is a little bit more cheery except for i got glue everywhere so you don’t want to get glue everywhere all right guys so that is it for tonight you could superimpose the merry christmas yes i could um thank you so much for joining me um we are having our team is having a um a kit night in september so we’re going to open up our team meeting and um anyone is welcome to join and bring a kit and come and stamp with us so stamping up has tons of beautiful beautiful kits you don’t need a lot of stamping equipment at home
