TRAIN YOUR HAIR TO BE CURLIER AND MORE DEFINED WITH FINGER COILING

hello everybody and welcome to my channel i’m jamie jo and today i’m going to be talking about training your curls and particularly finger coiling your hair in term training your curls may seem a little bit strange but basically today’s video is all about finger coiling your hair so that you can train your curls to curl in the way that you want them to find that when i don’t finger coil my hair i get really straggly pieces of hair that are sometimes straight or bent or just wavy rather than the typical curl that i would get on the top of my hair so today is about evening out your curl pattern and training it to curl in the right direction and in the right way and to just get rid of those struggly bits that kind of ruin the effect of your head this is a particularly good method if you have heat damaged hair and you’re currently transitioning from heat damaged hair back to your natural curls this is a really great routine if you want super juicy to find curls without the frizz i do want to disclaim that this video is not about getting volume for the hair this is three times less volume than i normally have but it’s really about focusing on those juicy spirals and even curls in the underneath section of your hair there are many different ways to finger coil your hair i’m going to be showing you my favorite way today but i definitely recommend experimenting and finding the way that works for you i have type 3a to 3b hair so i’ve got a mixture of those two patterns give you a close-up of these beautiful curls look at these underneath parts they never ever go like this like that is the most beautiful juicy curl ever this is what we’re getting this is what we’re getting today guys so if you want gorgeous perfectly spiraled curls make sure you stay tuned all right okay guys let’s hop straight into the styling slash demonstration part of today’s video i’m gonna try and break this down as simply as possible for you guys in steps that you can follow step one is to start off with nicely wet hair you don’t want it soaking but i like to have my hair pretty wet when i’m styling for extra defined curls now for step number two i’m going to section off my hair so that i can focus on every part of my hair and really make sure i am giving it equal attention midway through your hair i’m going to section it off so that i can focus on this underneath layer of my hair which typically suffers the most step number three which is applying a little bit of a strength serum i’m opting for a serum rather than an oil so that it’s not extra heavy on my hair and doesn’t weigh my hair down if you have thicker coarser hair than me oil should work fine but personally because my hair is thinner i don’t want to weigh it down with oil so i’m going to be applying this serum it is from john frieda the frizz ease extra strength serum focusing on the ends um of my hair and just really getting that because i’ve got quite a few split ends because i need a haircut and i’m going to drag it through like so for step number four i’m going to add a thin layer of a leave-in conditioner or a leave-in styling cream of some sort this product you want to make sure that it is um not too heavy not too thick but it’s nice and lightweight and hydrating and moisturizing so i opt for the curl boss um styling cream from bondi boost i love this product i’ve used it so so often and i’ve been through maybe three or four of these tubs i’m going to apply a thin even layer to my whole head rubbing that through my hands i’m not over applying products because you can always add products but you can’t take it away i’m just focusing that on these sections this is what my hair looks like up close as you can see these sections suffer the most whereas some of these already have naturally you know formed their curl i’m gonna have to step a little bit further away from the camera so that i can really show you me finger coiling so this is step number five finger coiling the hair um depending on your curl pattern um if it’s thinner spirals or thicker spirals you can use bigger chunks of your hair i’m going to be using sections probably around this big what i’m gonna do is start by just making sure it’s nice and smooth literally just twist my hair all the way down like this twisting and then i’m gonna wrap the hair up i’ll do this a few times so you can get the hang of it i’m going to squeeze and hold this just to really enforce that pattern and i’m going to let it go because my hair is so long obviously it didn’t bounce up a lot but this is what the curl looks like it’s really nice and even and spiraled and what i’m going to do now which i’m going to include in this step is scrunch this curl so i’m going to scrunch it up to again enforce that curl pattern and as you can see that’s got a lot more bounce already and a lot more shrink um so this is what i’m going to aim to get over my whole head finger coiling your hair is a long process but it is very very beneficial if you want to have those beautiful spirals and even curls and to find hair that looks silky and smooth and amazing taking roughly the same size sections smooth i’m going to repeat it a few times for you guys smooth wrap all the way down all the way down and then up hold and squeeze let the curl drop and now we’re going to scrunch it and that’s what we’ve got you can kind of scrunch them together too if you want but you see that really nice sectioned defined curls you can see there is such a difference between those curls and these curls if you get really good at it you can start doing two at the same time just to save you some time and then you’ll start to see your curls coming together looking really really beautiful so this is what my hair looks like after i have individually curled each section now we’re going to set these curls and this is step number five i will leave the numbers on the screen what i’m going to use is something that is a defining setting kind of cream mousse or gel this is green apple and aloe nutrition curl definer i am opting not to use a mousse today because i feel like mousse can obviously create a lot of volume but i’m going for my more definition and i don’t want my hair to be stringy so i think a gel or a defining stickier kind of cream thicker cream that is going to set your hair is your best option for this step so this is what i’m going to be using thick and sticky so i’m going to be very sparing with the amount of products i’m using and i’m just using enough to set those curls in place so that they dry with a really nice protective layer over them it will help them to be frizz free so i’m taking this amount of product for this step i’m working it through my hands what i want to do is kind of scrunch all the hair up together and get this product all over it to help those curls stay in place see that kind of stick i don’t want to disturb these beautiful curls that we’ve made so i’m just going to be scrunching them okay guys i’m so excited because that is pretty much the end of this process and the next step is to just repeat these current steps with the next section of your hair i’m going to just speed up this process um and do this in double time for you guys [Music] when it comes to the face area all you want to do is focus on curling the curls away from your head to ensure that you’re getting a really nice framed face and finally made it this honestly has felt like a mission but doing this once a week is going to be so so so beneficial so now for the next step we are going to move on to diffusing you could easily let your hair air dry and this will give you even more definition but i have a zoom meeting uh in an hour and i need my hair to be dry for it so i will be diffusing my hair and i’m just going to show you the best way possible to do that the best way possible is just to start by lightly um going over your head with the diffuser and not to distract the curls and blow them you just want to be really gentle and then we’re going to cup very gently we’re not going to do any shaking which i normally do for volume we’re just going to cup hold and release [Music] oh my gosh guys this is the most defined i’ve seen my hair in such a long time are you joking look at those beautiful spirals this is exactly the outcome that i wanted and for my last step all i want to do is really gently start to separate my curls or shake them out now i don’t want to do this too much to disturb the beautiful curls that we’ve been working so hard to create but i just want a tiny bit of volume so if there’s any fat fat fat juicy ones i’m gonna really just gently separate my hair you can add a tiny bit of oil to your hands if you want to make sure you’re keeping it um frizz free you can even shake your hair just the tiniest bit from the underneath so everybody these are today’s results for training your curls and finger coiling your hair and i’m so extremely happy this is exactly what i wanted the outcome of my hair to be if i give you a close-up you can see my curls are individually beautifully spiraled there’s not one curl maybe a few but there’s really not many curls that are straggly or straight my hair does not look frizzy at all it just looks so juicy so bouncy glossy and defined which is exactly what i wanted back here so everybody i really hope that this video helped you and that you can get on a healthy hair journey by starting to train your curls to curl the way that you want them to curl i hope you enjoyed today’s video and learnt something and come back for more curly hair tips i love you all and thank you so much for watching bye everyone
