UK still trying to threaten world with US Army despite Afghanistan disaster

[Music] all right for more on this we will go to former uk mp george galloway so george the emergency debate today found boris johnson back on his heels a lot of criticism from mps and after months of silence former prime minister theresa may blasted her successor for quote failure to form an alternative alliance after the u.s withdrawal what do you make of all that well it’s a foolish wallowing in imperial nostalgia the plain facts are that britain goes around the world threatening people with america’s army but when america’s army pulls out the british are left with their pants down and that’s what happened here we were masquerading as an imperial power in afghanistan and in iraq but only because we had uncle sam’s firepower at our disposal and now that the united states government has taken and i remind people of this the overwhelmingly popular decision in the u.s to end the war in afghanistan then the pretenders are left looking embarrassed boris johnson’s performance was pitiful the leader of the opposition’s more pitiful still theresa may the former prime minister landed the only blows but interestingly manila there was absolutely nothing said about the original decision by tony blair and george bush to invade and occupy afghanistan in the first place so whilst the demonstrators outside wanted to talk about lessons and so on nobody inside the parliament appeared to have grasped any of those lessons at all it was rather like suez in 1956 when the british and french were left up the creek without a paddle when the united states turned against the harebrained episode of the suez invasion and george the uk says you will take in 20 000 afghan refugees what sort of infrastructure is in place there to be able to host and help these people make new lives for themselves in the uk in terms of resettlement and what’s the civilian sentiment about taking them all in uh well not very positive we already have hundreds of people a week sometimes more than a thousand people a week crossing the english channel in robert dingues from france these are people who have fled poverty and war invasion and so on in different wars over the last 20 years and now we’re being told the government will be taking in tens of thousands more there’s a kind of dutch auction in the parliament today as to who could demand more afghan refugees if the situation remains calm in afghanistan as it is at the moment then the best thing by far is for afghans to remain in afghanistan and help them rebuild their country with uh with the properly targeted aid projects and the rest of course those that were collaborators of the foreign occupation will have to be rescued uh honor uh requires that yeah if they were you know translators or or functionaries of one kind or another of the occupation then clearly they have to be allowed to come back uh as the occupation ends with our people but for the mass of the afghan people to dream of turning up in england when we already have more than enough problems that’s a pipe dream and none of the politicians promising it today would dream of housing these refugees in their own summer houses or in their own spare rooms manila yeah and lastly george real quick uh general nick carter great britain’s chief of defense staff says the taliban could quote be more reasonable in power this time around do you believe his remarks and do you think perhaps he’s making those comments based on more intel than you and i might know no i think it’s uh just making the best of it and that’s all we can do now isn’t it we have to engage with whoever is the political power in afghanistan or the place may very well turn out the way that it did 20 years ago as a base for al-qaeda and now isis and other such organizations so we have we all have an interest now in trying to influence in a diplomatic way uh the future course of uh afghanistan we certainly failed to do it by invading it killing hundreds of thousands of them and and destroying the country which was already a stone age country when we went in yeah perhaps give up the stick method and try the carrot this time around uh george galloway my friend thank you for weighing in welcome you
