Wake Forest Baptist Health employees protest the COVID-19 vaccine requirement

First Tonight, Hospital employees and activists took to the streets outside Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem protesting the health systems new mandate that employees are required to get the COVID vaccine. Our Itys bookmiller was there and explains why the demonstrators are upset. I am a nurse. I am a patient advocate. We should have the right to choose. They are suppressing our rights to choose what we do. A fired up crowd of about 50 people outside Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem expressed their anger at health care facilities threatening to fire workers who don’t get vaccinated. I used to say that I was proud to be an employee of Wake Forest Baptist. I can’t say that anymore. Hope Anglesey is 7 months. In at Wake Forest Baptist Health as a CNA, she says she isn’t against all vaccines but is hesitant to get the COVID shot. I am worried that there has not been enough research done on this vaccine. The typical amount of time that it takes for a vaccine to be researched and tested before it is administered to humans is much longer than what the COVID vaccine has been done. Concerns around the lack of full FDA approval and the belief their rights are being taken away, reflected on the signs protesters held. Ryan White stood alone in support of the vaccine mandate. He says he saw the crowd while heading to the grocery store and felt he needed to take a stand. My wife is a nurse at this facility. She is at her wits end of dealing with this weekend and week out it’s past year. It took an emotional toll on me via her. The reason this thing is mutating is because people won’t simply get a vaccine. New shuddhi studies are showing that the vaccinated are having just as many. Cases as COVID as unvaccinated people, Wake Forest Baptist is sticking to the mandate despite protests in a statement, they said in part we respect their rights to have their voices heard in a peaceful and civil manner. Vaccination against infectious diseases is necessary to protect everyone who counts on us. The science shows that the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. We would never ask our teammates to do something we did not feel was safe.
